Customs House Museum and Cultural Center Presents Landy R. Hales Layered Posters

Clarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is exhibiting layered posters by Landy R. Hales, a well-known graphic designer in New York City during the 1920s and 30s, through the end of the year.
Included in the show are nostalgic images of toys, nursery rhymes, household interiors, and Christmas moments. The whimsical works displayed are from the Hales family collection.

Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts receives grant to bolster efforts with local school teachers

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts recently received a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to expand the University’s arts education partnership with the local school system.
Randy Barron, a John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts teaching artist, led workshops last October as part of the CECA-CMCSS Partners in Education program. (APSU)

Clarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is showcasing large oil paintings on canvas and paper by acclaimed artist Paul Harmon in the Museum’s Crouch Gallery. Harmon’s signature themes of reclining nudes and literary references are showcased in more than fifty works.
New forms such as a dappled horse and a vibrant fox dance throughout the collection in Harmon’s signature blue hue and bold use of contour lines.

Clarksville Arts & Heritage seeks Artwork Submissions for 2020 Calendar

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council (AHDC) is putting out a call to artists who are interested in having their work featured in the 12th annual Cultural Calendar. Each month will feature an artist’s work and highlight upcoming arts and heritage events.
Submitted work will be juried to determine which piece is featured each month, as well as which artwork appears on the cover. As in years past, calendars will be available through AHDC’s website, as well as in the Customs House Museum’s “Seasons” gift shop and other locations around town.

Clarksville, TN – Guests of the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center from now through September can get a glimpse of city days gone by with the new exhibition New York Revisited: A Photographic Essay by Norman Lerner.
Skyscrapers, steam rising through street vents, newspaper kiosks near subway entrances, women dressed in high-fashion black−there are few cities that everyone can envision in their head without ever stepping foot there other than New York City.
