Nashville Artist Guild Commemorates the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War at the Customs House Museum

Clarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum is currently showcasing the art of the Nashville Artist Guild in its Kimbrough Gallery through February with the exhibit “Divided Loyalties.”
The show represents the artistic interpretations of the many different aspects of the War Between the States within a variety of media.

Acuff Circle now accepting nominates for Ovation Awards

Clarksville, TN – The deadline is fast approaching for nominations for the coveted Acuff Circle of Excellence Ovation Awards in the arts.
The nominees must have made significant contributions to the artistic and cultural life of the Clarksville-Montgomery County community. Anyone can submit nominations. Nominations will be accepted through Tuesday, January 20th. The awards ceremony is March 1st at the Customs House Museum.
The sponsoring Acuff Circle, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Austin Peay State University Foundation, is a patrons society of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts. The awards have been presented since 1996. [Read more]

Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area Expands Traveling Exhibition on Emancipation and Reconstruction in Tennessee
Clarksville, TN – As we begin the last year of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area has expanded its traveling exhibition about emancipation and Reconstruction.
“Free at Last!” tells the momentous story of the transition from slavery to freedom and the development of citizenship among formerly enslaved African Americans.
Thomas Dodd Brings Surreal Works to the Customs House Museum

The viewer is immediately transported into a surreal fantasy of contemporary stories within each work of art.

Famed musicologist Celenza to visit APSU November 12th-17th as Acuff Chair of Excellence

Clarksville, TN – In 1772, the Austrian composer Joseph Haydn decided to play a little trick on his benefactor, Prince Nikolaus Esterházy. Haydn and the court orchestra had spent months with the overbearing prince at his summer palace, and they were beginning to feel homesick for their families.
That summer, Haydn composed his Symphony No. 45 in F-Sharp minor, known as the “Farewell Symphony,” for the prince.
Clarksville’s Customs House Museum to celebrate Season of Equine starting November 11th
