Andrew Jackson & the War of 1812 Presentation by Dr. Tom Kanon

Clarksville, TN – On Sunday, October 15th, 2017, Dr. Tom Kanon will give a presentation on Andrew Jackson and the War of 1812 in the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center’s Turner Auditorium.
The program is from 2:00pm–4:00pm with free admission to the public.
Ann Nichols Brings Split Focus to the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center

Clarksville, TN – New this month in the Planters Bank Peg Harvill Gallery at the Customs House Museum is a collection of works by Tennessee artist Ann Nichols. The suite of small, detailed oil paintings possess a bold presence, with duel images on each panel.
Exotic birds and flowers balance delicate eggs and fruit in each piece.
War of 1812 Talk, Marker Dedication set for October 15th

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council, in conjunction with Customs House Museum, is sponsoring an unveiling of a historic highway marker commemorating Clarksville’s role in the War of 1812.
The marker will be placed on Riverside Drive near the site where Middle Tennessee volunteer militia boarded flatboats for the long journey to fight with General Andrew Jackson in the Battle of New Orleans, the last conflict in the war.

Women Writers’ Hour Event at the Customs House Museum

Clarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum will kick off the month of October with a Writers’ Hour in conjunction with the exhibit This Is My Story. The event takes place on October 1st, 2017 at 2:00pm and will include readings by some of the women featured in the show.
Women writers representing multiple decades shared their thoughts of who they are on Mother’s Day. Their writings are suspended on cloth, hung “clothesline style” in the Museum’s Jostens Gallery.
Gallery Talk on September 16th with Award-Winning Artists at the Customs House Museum

Clarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum will host a gallery talk for its current exhibition Women Painting Women: In Earnest on Saturday, September 16th, 2017.
The exhibit grew from an online blog in 2009, highlighting women artists working in the figurative tradition. Guest speakers at the museum event include co-founder Alia El-Bermani. Her paintings and drawings have been showcased in museums throughout the world.

Call for Artwork Submissions for 2018 Arts & Heritage Cultural Calendar

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council (AHDC) is putting out a call to artists who are interested in having their work featured in the tenth annual Cultural Calendar. Each month will feature an artist’s work and highlight upcoming arts and heritage events.
Submitted work will be juried to determine which piece is featured each month, as well as which artwork appears on the cover. As in years past, calendars will be available through AHDC’s website, as well as in the Customs House Museum’s “Seasons” gift shop and other locations around town.
