Book Signing to Benefit Friends of Dunbar Cave
Clarksville, TN – Local nature photographer David Magers specializes in birds. His work has been shown in various Clarksville venues, including the Downtown Artists Co-op, Silke’s Old World Breads, Planters Bank, L and N Train Station, the Clarksville Public Library, and others. David has recently published a photography book titled “The Birds of Dunbar Cave State Park,” containing recent photos of some 58 species, all taken on the park grounds.
The Magical Work of Aaron Grayum Comes to the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center

Clarksville, TN – Through October 30th, 2016, the Planters Bank Peg Harvill Gallery of the Customs House Museum features light-hearted paintings by Nashville Tennessee artist Aaron Grayum.
Large works featuring circus characters within powdery blue and yellow background dance throughout the gallery walls, lacing a sense of nostalgia into the contemporary paintings.
Customs House Museum Presents the 6th Annual Laying Low

Clarksville, TN – Laying Low is back for its sixth installment to benefit the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center on Saturday, October 8th. This laid-back annual fundraiser begins at 5:00pm with festivities lasting into the evening.
This fun fall evening features beer, games, and live music in a festival atmosphere. This year’s event takes place at Daffodil Hill, 2100 Madison Street.

Call for Artwork Submissions for 2017 Arts & Heritage Cultural Calendar

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council (AHDC) is putting out a call to artists who are interested in having their work featured in the ninth annual Cultural Calendar. Each month will feature an artist’s work and highlight upcoming arts and heritage events.
Submitted work will be juried to determine which piece is featured each month, as well as which artwork appears on the cover. As in years past, calendars will be available through AHDC’s website, as well as in the Customs House Museum’s “Seasons” gift shop and other locations around town.
Customs House Museum and Cultural Center Showcases Sculptor Olen Bryant

Clarksville, TN – Through October 16th, the Orgain and Bruner Galleries of the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center greet museum visitors with gentle faces of wood and ceramic. Olen Bryant: Tennessee Treasure celebrates the region’s favorite artists with an exhibition of thirty-one works.
Coming from private collectors as well as the Customs House’s own permanent collection, the show features delicate women from the 1950s to a large ironing board figure created in 2004.

Women Who Paint Women Are Alive and Well at Customs House Museum

Clarksville, TN – So often we admire paintings and artworks of artists who are not accessible for questions or comments. Not so was the case Thursday night, August 11th. Customs House Museum hosted a gala affair which introduced an exhibit entitled “Women Painting Women 2016”.
Featured artists’ works included those of Denise Stewart Sanabria who created life size cutouts of people whose only identity were numbers, but whose personalities were evident in the charcoal and pastel pencil on plywood models. They reminded one of oversized paper dolls, just ready to come to life.

Customs House Museum and Cultural Center Presents its Fourth Women Painting Women Exhibition

Clarksville, TN – Nine female artists from four states have taken over the Crouch Gallery of the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center starting August 5th.
While the museum has featured women artists in its annual Women’s History Month exhibitions each March, this is the only annual show with a specific group subject matter: the female form.
