APSU 1000 class raises money to help Child Learning Center improve playground

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – When freshmen and new students begin their academic careers at Austin Peay State University, they take a course known as APSU 1000 to learn more about the University, their majors and resources on campus.

One APSU 1000 class, though, decided to take their classroom experience to another level. On Wednesday, November 14th, the students presented a $320.00 check to the APSU Child Learning Center (CLC) for playground improvements.

APSU employees announce their professional, scholarly achievements

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Three faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced publications or conferences attended as part of their professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Jill Franks, professor of languages and literature, had her book, titled “Voices of Irish and British Women Writers: A Comparative Feminist Analysis,” accepted for publication by McFarland and Company. It is scheduled for release in Spring 2013. [Read more]

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University announce their recent professional and scholarly activities.

Dr. Chad Brooks, associate professor of biology, co-authored an article about an amphibian-lethal virus in west Tennessee, and the article is published in the latest edition of Herpetological Review. The title of the article was “Further presence of ranavirus infection in amphibian populations of Tennessee, USA.” [Read more]

Philip Voorhees became president of the Tennessee Association on Higher Education and Disability during the organization’s annual conference on April 13th.

Lynette Taylor, Martin Golson and Philip Voorhees recently were awarded a TBR Diversity Access Grant for serving at-risk students. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University Child Learning Center earns Gold Sneaker Award from Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Last year, Connie Sanders, director of the Austin Peay State University Child Learning Center, became concerned about the preschool-aged children under her care. Many of them brought sack lunches with junk food and sugary treats, and she knew they weren’t getting enough exercise at home.

Obesity and diabetes loomed in their future, so Sanders and her staff decided to do something before it was too late. [Read more]

APSU staff members honored for continuous service, retirement or education

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Several employees at Austin Peay State University were recognized Friday, July 22nd for their continuous years of service. A reception was held in the Morgan University Center ballroom to honor those employees.

Donna Liverett, administrative assistant in the APSU Department of Chemistry, was honored for her 40 years of service to APSU.
Employees with 25 years are Clifford Frederick, Cheryl Garrett, David Gleckler, Denise Hemingway, Michele Jones, Betty Leimer and Julia McGee.
