Custom House Museum continues the Celebration of Women with Writers’ Panel

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, April 14th, the Customs House Museum will host a writers’ panel discussion in the Turner Auditorium, starting at 1:00pm.

The Customs House Museum reopens 1898 Building with an Open House Event April 28th

Clarksville, TN – After months of renovation, the Customs House 1898 building will be reopening on April 28th.
In February, Customs House Museum closed the doors to its 1898 building in order to replace nine undersized, outdated, and malfunctioning Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning units (HVAC) with four commercial units.
Customs House Museum and Cultural Center has Activities for Spring Break

Clarksville, TN – On March 27th, 28th, and 29th, from 10:00am to 1:00pm, and March 30th, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, the Customs House Museum will have Spring Break activities for the kids.
Although the Explorers’ Gallery may still be closed, there will be fun things to do at the museum while the kids are out of school this week. [Read more]
Customs House Museum and Cultural Center remains open during Sidewalk Repairs

Clarksville, TN – Sidewalk repairs started March 12th at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center. The main entrance to the Museum is closed so that repairs to the sidewalk can be completed.
The Museum wants to remind visitors that during this time, everyone must use the back entrance located in the Museum’s parking lot. Again, the Museum is not closed during this repair. The back entrance is open.
Quantum Confusion at the Customs House Museum during Women’s History Month

Clarksville, TN – Charcoal people drawn on wood have taken over the Orgain Gallery of the Customs House Museum through May 20th. An exhibit by Knoxville based artist Denise Stewart Sanabria, Quantum Confusion explores a theory of parallel worlds.
The installation size is approximately 8’W x 16’L x 8’H, and contains eleven full scale charcoal portraits on cut-out plywood, mounted on black floor stands. Two sheets of Plexiglas are sandwiched between emerging and disappearing people. [Read more]

Customs House Museum Celebrates Women’s History Month

Clarksville, TN – The two-story gallery of the Customs House Museum will be filled with “The Words of Women” next month instead of the usual visual art.
“Each year I create an exhibit celebrating Women’s History Month. This time we are focusing on women writers”, says Terri Jordan, Exhibits Curator. This exhibit will be held March 2nd – May 6th. Participating writers were sent a vintage item to be used as the muse for their work. [Read more]
Clarksville Police Department seeks Applicants for Citizen Police Academy

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is taking applications for the next Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) class which runs from March 20th – May 29th, 2012. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.
The CPA covers all facets of the Police Department’s activities from administration to tactical operations. Citizens are given an opportunity to not only learn about Police Department functions, but also afforded a chance to participate in activities such as: police vehicle operations, firearms instruction, self-defense techniques, and use of force decision-making exercises.
