Montgomery County, TN – Six Clarksville-Montgomery County high schools will compete in this year’s annual Battle of the Books, which will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, April 6th, 2011 at the Clarksville Public Library. Vaccination Requirements for Incoming Kindergartners and 7th Graders

Montgomery County, TN – Parents of sixth graders and children who will enter kindergarten in August, should be aware of the immunization requirements needed to be admitted into school for the 2011-2012 school year.
Those entering kindergarten or 7th grade, will be required to have updated immunizations prior to entering school in the fall. It is important to note that it is state law that no child shall be permitted to attend school until proof of immunization is provided to the school. [Read more]

Increasing Colorful Fruit and Vegetable Consumption among Families
Clarksville, TN – March 23rd, 2011 through March 24th, 2011 is Spring Adventure for the families in public housing (Lincoln Homes, Summit Heights and Caldwell Lane) during spring break on March 23rd and March 24th. The event dates are as follows: Lincoln Homes: Wednesday, March 23rd from 10:00am – 12:00pm; Summit Heights: Wednesday, March 23rd from 1:30pm-3:30pm; Edmondson Ferry Road neighborhood: Thursday, March 24th from 1:00pm-3:00pm.
This event comes during March’s National Nutrition Month. The American Dietetic Association (ADA) comes up with a nutrition theme every year to promote healthy eating. The 2011 theme for March’s National Nutrition Month is “Eat Right with Color.” The Tennessee Consumer Education Program (TNCEP) and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) have put a spin on the theme to make it more kid-friendly, and have named the event “Eat the Rainbow.” [Read more]
CMCSS Kindergarten Roundups Announced

Montgomery County, TN – Kindergarten roundups in CMCSS give parents and guardians the opportunity to learn more about the kindergarten experience as their children begin their academic journey.
Children who attend also will receive a complimentary backpack filled with learning activities for the summer before starting school. The backpacks are provided by the CMC Education Foundation thanks to sponsors Valerie Hunter-Kelly of Keller-Williams Realtors and Clarksville Pediatric Dentistry.

Youth Art Month Begins Tuesday

Montogmery County, TN – National Youth Art Month is March and the K-8 art programs with CMCSS will again have the art show at the Public Library during March beginning Thursday, March 3rd from 4:00pm–6:00pm at the Customs House Museum and DAC Gallery (Downtown Artist’s Co-op on Public Square).
MCHS, KHS, NEHS, WCHS and the Clarksville Academy will be participating in the high school art show beginning next week.

Banking is Elementary with US Bank’s School Program

Clarksville, TN – US Bank’s commitment to local schools as a Partner in Education has resulted in helping elementary students operate their own school banks.
Currently there are five active school banks at the following schools: Cumberland Heights, East Montgomery, Hazelwood, St Bethlehem, and Minglewood. Past partnerships included Sango, Burt and Moore as well.
School Board Awards Point of Pride Recipients

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board recognized local recipients of awards from the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association. High Schools Director Rosalyn Evans noted that it was unprecedented for one school district to receive as many awards as CMCSS from TSSAA.

Reading is Something to Cheer About for Montgomery Central Students

Clarksville, TN – The twice national varsity cheerleading champions from Montgomery Central High School plan to give younger students some reading skills to shout about.
The cleverly titled ‘CheeReader’ program will launch next week with MCHS’s 12 varsity and nine junior varsity cheerleaders spending time with beginning readers at Montgomery Central Elementary School. The girls will read one to two books to the students they are paired with, ask the younger students questions concerning the book’s plot and help reinforce the the standards teachers are working on.
