Assistant Principal Named for Kenwood Elementary

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemMontgomery County, TN – Jeremy Cecil has been selected as assistant principal at Kenwood Elementary, replacing Tracy Hodges who was named Principal at St. Bethlehem Elementary.

Mr. Cecil has taught in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System for 10 years, first at Woodlawn Elementary and for the last four years at Moore Magnet School, where he has been a fifth grade teacher.

He earned his M.A. in Educational Leadership at Austin Peay State University, where he also earned a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies.

Northeast Middle School Offers Middle School 101 for Parents

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemMontgomery County, TN – Northeast Middle School is offering a seminar for parents of all Northeast Middle School students. From 6:00pm – 7:00pm on Monday, August 29th, Northeast school counselors will be hosting “Middle School 101”.

This event will help parents or guardians learn more about what middle school students are like and how best to relate to them during these pre-teen and teenage years. [Read more]

First 3 Weeks Progress Reports Friday

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemMontgomery County, TN – Students will be receiving their first progress reports on Friday, based on the first three weeks of academic performance. Parents can follow along on their child’s progress more frequently by signing up for PowerSchool.

If parents need a sign-in password, they may contact their child’s school office for assistance.

Apples for Education Campaign Brings in Supplies for Teachers and Students

Clarksville-Montgomery County Education FoundationClarksville, TN – Two local banks and their branches participated in the Clarksville Montgomery County Education Foundation’s “Apples for Education,” a school supply drive and donation campaign to stock items for the teachers’ free supply store. The campaign began in late July and ended on Monday.

Legends Bank presented $400.00 and between 400 to 500 school supply items. Cumberland Bank & Trust donated $68.00 and around 100 items. [Read more]

St. Bethlehem Principal Announced

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemClarksville, TN – Tracy Hodges has been named principal at St. Bethlehem Elementary School, replacing Gina Biter who was appointed principal of Northeast Elementary School.

Hodges most recently served as assistant principal at Kenwood Elementary School. Prior to her administrative experience, she served as a middle school literacy coach in Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. [Read more]

Student Wins Car in Giveaway for Advanced Placement Success

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemClarksville, TN – Saturday’s third annual Joe Heitz Pass and Go event ended with a recent Clarksville High graduate winning a brand new Toyota Yarris.

The event is held to encourage high school students in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System to take more rigorous advanced placement classes. If students earn a 3, 4, or 5 on the national College Board exam, they are eligible to take part in the car and laptop computer giveaway.

Northeast Elementary Principal Appointment Announced

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemMontgomery County, TN – Gina Biter has been named principal of Northeast Elementary School for the upcoming school year.

Mrs. Biter has been with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System since 1989 as a teacher, assistant principal and as principal of St. Bethlehem Elementary for the past three years. She also served in administrative roles at Minglewood and Norman Smith during her tenure.

First Catie Summers Scholarship Awarded

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemClarksville, TN – Clarksville High students Alexis M. Bynum and Austin Pitts are the first two recipients of the Catie Summers Memorial Scholarship. Each will receive a $1,000 scholarship for their freshman year in college. Applicants have to be graduating seniors from the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Schools who have battled cancer during their lifetime.

Recipients must have a 3.0 grade point average OR a mininum ACT score of 21 and be accept to a college or university.

Northeast Middle School Students Win State Competition with Help from APSU

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville is a large venue, with two levels of seating and a capacity for more than 1,600 people. When three Northeast Middle School students first entered the building last month, their eyes widened. One of them might have gasped.

That’s where they were supposed to perform the short play they wrote? With all those seats?

“We didn’t think we would do well at all,” Ariana Nelson, 14, said.

“We said, ‘our play is so lame,’” Brianna Tyre, 14, said.

CMCSS Announces Elementary Principal Appointments

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemMontgomery County, TN – Two new principals have been selected to fill the open positions at Byrns Darden and Burt Elementary Schools for the 2011-12 school year.

Diana Hara, currently assistant principal at Hazelwood Elementary, will be principal at Burt Elementary, replacing Irene Gudgeon who is retiring at the end of this school year.

Andy Lyons, currently assistant principal at Barkers Mill Elementary, will serve as principal at Byrns Darden Elementary. He replaces Michelle Rayle, who has been named as assistant principal at Northeast and Rossview High Schools. [Read more]
