Clarksville, TN – “It’s all about soul,” Dr. Becky Starnes, Austin Peay State University professor of public management, said, referring to her recently published book, “Challenges in City Management: A Case Study Approach.”
“I believe that people often lose touch with their cities,” she said. “We may grow complacent and take the cities we live in for granted. For example, we drive on our city roads almost every day. Yet, have we ever stopped to think about the history of that road? When was it built, why was it built, what’s the story behind its name or how does it contribute to the quality of life in our community?”
Clarksville Parks and Recreation to hold Olympic Style Archery at the Kleeman Community Center

That day two of the greatest Governors athletes in their respective sports and the department’s longtime sports information director will be inducted to Austin Peay State University Athletics Hall of Fame.

APSU Alumna and Dyslexia Advocate to sign New Book on February 5th

Clarksville, TN – At 11:00am on February 5th, noted dyslexia advocate and Austin Peay State University alumna Ruth Fuller Lature (’63, ’76) will sign copies of her new book, “Dyslexia: A Teacher’s Journey,” in the Morgan University Center.
Lature spent 35 years as a public school teacher in Kentucky, where she quickly developed a passion for students with reading disabilities.

Youth Charity Fashion Show Gala

Clarksville, TN – On January 25th, 2014 at 4:00pm the Leap Organization will be hosting a Charity Fashion Show Gala at the Emmanuel Family Life Center located at 303 Fairview Lane. In addition to youth modeling locally designed attire and formal wear, elected officials, pastors, and community leaders will also rip the runway.
There will be a catered meal served by youth for guests along with a silent auction featuring baskets containing gift cards, perfumes, sporting goods/memorabilia, vacations, and much more.

Potential cognitive decline from hearing loss could be avoided

Clarksville, TN – People who choose to seek treatment for hearing loss will be happy to know that they have also reduced their risk of serious cognitive disease. According to recent research by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, depending upon the severity, people with hearing loss may face a 36% increase in the risk of dementia and other cognitive diseases.
