APSU to Expand footprint in Historic Downtown Clarksville with New Art Gallery and Museum

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University is moving forward with plans to have a stronger presence in downtown Clarksville with the recent $500,000 purchase of a building at 103 Strawberry Alley.
The 15,000-square-foot building, which previously housed the nightclubs Joe B’s and Bar 103, will likely include an art gallery and museum on the third floor, housing APSU’s impressive folk art collection. The pieces in that collection were donated to the University by Ned and Jacqueline Crouch and Dr. Joe Trahern.
Clarksville’s New Providence Community Policing Center to hold Job Fair Monday, February 24th

Clarksville, TN – On Monday, February 24th, 2014, from 10:00am to 1:00pm, the New Providence Community Policing Center (NPCPC) is hosting a Job Fair. There are multiple employers that will be attending this event.
Bring your résumé, photo ID, and Social Security card or birth certificate. Dress for success. Be prepared to complete job applications and to interview.
Clarksville’s Chocolate Affair gives exposure to local businesses

Clarksville, TN – The second annual Chocolate Affair was held February 8th, 2014 at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center at Liberty Park. Chocolate lovers indulged on vendor samples of chocolate and other confectionery treats.
The event was a sellout, with 600 tickets sold and was enjoyed by all that attended. It also gave local businesses a chance to meet potential new customers.
Registration is now open for the 36th Annual Queen City Road Race

Clarksville, TN – It’s that time of year again to lace up those running shoes and begin preparing for the 36th Annual Queen City Road Race scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd, 2014.
The Queen City Road Race event is a Clarksville tradition promoting fitness and fun for all ages.
Clarksville’s Customs House Museum to host Andy Warhol Polaroid exhibit beginning March 6th

Clarksville, TN – A rare exhibition of Andy Warhol’s photographic portraits will be held at the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center. Sessions with Andy: Warhol Photography from the University of South Carolina Upstate opens in the Kimbrough Gallery on March 6th.
Andy Warhol is best known for his Pop Art paintings of Campbell’s Soup cans and Marilyn Monroe.
APSU employees share recent professional developments, activities

Clarksville, TN – Faculty and staff members at Austin Peay State University recently announced a number of achievements as part of their professional and scholarly activities.
Christopher Burawa, director of the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, had his translation of Kristín Eiríksdóttir’s short story, “Staðsetja, Útvega, Flokka, Raða og Varðveita” (“Locating, Acquiring, Classifying, Arranging, and Preserving”) published in the spring 2014 issue of the literary journal Waxwing. Clarksville, TN – Come and join hundreds of brave individuals on Sunday, February 23rd at 1:30pm and support Special Olympics Tennessee athletes by jumping into the chilly waters of the outdoor pool at Foy Recreation Center on Austin Peay State University campus.
With just $50.00 in donations each plunger receives the official long-sleeved Plunge t-shirt and all bragging rights associated with such a brave endeavor.
14th Annual Montgomery County Antique Tractor and Engine Show coming September 26th-27th, 2014

Clarksville, TN – On September 26th-27th, 2014, the Montgomery County Antique Tractor and Engine Club will hold the 14th Annual Montgomery County Antique Tractor and Engine Show at the 4-H Club Grounds. Admission to the event is free.
Although open to the general public, Friday, September 26th, is designated as “Kid’s Day.” Teachers (and parents) bring children from local and surrounding county and private schools to learn about life on the farm as it was many years ago.
Clarksville Civil War Roundtable’s next meeting is February 19th, 2014

Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Hospital. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.
The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.
