The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has extended the registration deadline to July 8th for the Canoe and Kayak Race. The race will take place on July 12th at Liberty Park.

Austin Peay State University Public Relations and Marketing wins Eight awards at 2014 TCPRA

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Office of Public Relations and Marketing at Austin Peay State University won eight awards during the Tennessee College Public Relations Association spring conference and awards contest held June 12th-13th at Lipscomb University in Nashville.

TCPRA – an alliance of communicators across the state representing public and private colleges and universities, technical schools, technology centers and community colleges – awarded gold, silver and bronze distinctions in various writing, design, publication and photography categories. Entries were received for the contest period between April 1st, 2013, and April 30th, 2014. [Read more]

Renowned flutist William Bennett to perform concert at APSU on June 27th

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Classical music aficionados throughout the area mark June on their calendars each year, because that’s when flutist William Bennett, considered “the greatest living flute player in the world,” hosts a special concert on the Austin Peay State University campus.

This year, he’ll perform his transcription of the Violin Sonata in f minor by Felix Mendelssohn at 7:30pm, Friday, June 27th, in the Mabry Concert Hall.

Clarksville to host Professional Horseshoe Pitching Tournament this weekend

Clarksville Montgomery County Convention and Visitors BureauClarksville, TN – For horseshoe pitching enthusiasts, the 2014 HP Pro Tour Open Horseshoe Tournament will be making its way to Montgomery County’s Civitan Park June 28th-29th.

The HP Pro Tour is a series of horseshoe pitching tournaments, held monthly during the spring and summer, where competitors try to get as many ringers as possible and walk away with big cash prizes. Sixty pitchers from across the Southeast will make their way to Clarksville to take part in the competition.

Aspire Clarksville Foundation annouces $4 Million Campaign Achievement

Aspire Clarksville FoundationClarksville, TN – On Monday evening, Dr. Mark Green and Joe Pitts announced that the Aspire Clarksville Foundation had garnered nearly $4 million in pledges, surpassing the current goal, and previous campaigns, by a wide margin.

Aspire Clarksville, an economic development foundation to benefit Clarksville-Montgomery County, Tennessee, officially announced in February that the goal for the entire Aspire V “Focus On The Future” Campaign was $3.8 million.

Austin Peay State University Hispanic Cultural Center goes on tour, hosts World Cup Sticker Exchange

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – World Cup fever continues to intensify, with soccer fans across the globe scrambling to fill their World Cup sticker albums. The Austin Peay State University Hispanic Cultural Center and Hispanic Alumni Chapter are embarking on a tour to host World Cup Sticker Exchanges at select businesses.

In addition to trading stickers and filling up World Cup sticker albums, there will be free giveaways for those that can answer soccer trivia correctly. Participants will also receive Lady Govs Soccer posters, and be able to speak with staff members about Austin Peay, the APSU Hispanic Alumni Chapter and resources provided by the APSU Hispanic Cultural Center. APSU School of Nursing receives $35,000 grant with Montgomery County Health Department for Breast Health

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University School of Nursing and the Montgomery County Health Department will continue to support the fight against breast cancer, thanks to a recent $35,985 grant from the Greater Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

For the second year in a row, the Nashville Komen affiliate has awarded the grant to the two organizations to provide breast health education and services to underserved populations in this community.

Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for June 24th through June 28th, 2013

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. There are programs for children and adults.

Upcoming events include: Learn About Dunbar Cave SNA*, Bats and White Nose Syndrome*, Frogs and Toads*, History of Port Royal*,
Night Hike and Night Sounds*, and Kids Nature Games.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation's Movies in the ParkClarksville, TN – Movies in the Park, the City’s free, outdoor movie series, continues Saturday, June 28th, at Heritage Park, 1241 Peachers Mill Road, Clarksville. ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ rated G, and brought to you by Realtor, Thryce Lindsey, will be shown at approximately 8:30pm (dependent on sunset).

The Wizard of Oz is about a girl named Dorothy Gale who is swept away by a tornado from her home in Kansas to a magical land. Dorothy and her dog Toto follow the yellow brick road and make friends along the way, as they head to the Emerald City to meet the Great Wizard in hopes that he can help return them home.
