Clarksville Fire Rescue to hold Annual 9-11 Ceremony

Clarksville Fire RescueClarksville, TN – On Thursday, September 11th, 2014, Clarksville Fire Rescue will hold the annual ceremony honoring fallen firefighters and victims of the 9-11 tragedy. The event will begin at 6:00pm at the Main Fire Station, 802 Main Street, in Clarksville.

“This annual ceremony is an important event to our community and I am honored to be a part of it,” said Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan. “I encourage everyone to join us and to stop and remember our fallen firefighters and the victims of 9-11. Several renowned musicians to visit APSU this year as Acuff Chairs of Excellence

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – When Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto first premiered in Prague in October 1791, the famed piece sounded much different than what audiences often hear today.

The composer’s friend, Anton Stadler, used a basset clarinet in that first performance, but the instrument fell out of favor in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Modern performances of the work are simply faint echoes of the how the piece was originally conceived.

Tennessee Governor’s Books from Birth Bus Tour stops at Governor’s Square Mall on September 11th

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation (GBBF) launched its “Books from Birth 10th Anniversary Tour” on August 26th in Johnson County and it will conclude at the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville on September 30th, visiting some 50 counties across the state in a forty-five foot decorated touring coach.

The tour bus will visit Clarksville at the Food Court entrance to Governor’s Square Mall on Thursday, September 11th from 12:30pm to 2:00pm.

Dr. Kadi Bliss, assistant professor of health and human performance, earned her Ph.D. in health education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Clarksville Riverfest’s 2014 Tour d’Art Winners Awarded

2014 RiverfestClarksville, TN – After hundreds of artists had their works of art on display at two locations in downtown Clarksville, then judged by artist Mary Addison Hackett, winners were awarded at Clarksville Riverfest’s Tour d’Art Receptions held Thursday, September 4th and Friday, September 5th, 2014.

Over $2,500 in prizes were awarded.

The competition included five categories: Photography & Digital Images, Sculpture, Painting, Mixed Media/Collage, and Drawing. Monetary awards are given to first through third place in each category (for each division) and a Best of Show Award.

Riverfest Weather forecast shows chance of Showers, Thunderstorms

2014 RiverfestClarksville, TN – The 27th annual Riverfest Celebration starts tonight September 5th and continues Saturday, September 6th, 2014. The National Weather Service forecast this weekend is partly sunny, highs around 90 and a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Friday’s forecast is mostly sunny with a high near 91 with calm winds from the south around 5 mph. There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1:00am with a low around 70.
