Most Patriotic Judges Change Trip to Independence Day Weekend

Clarksville, TN – The Captain and Clark Road Rally Team changed their itinerary so they can now visit Clarksville July 3rd-4th as part of their judging the Most Patriotic category for the Rand McNally-USA Today Best of the Road contest.
Team member Tawny Clark called while a group gathered to plan Clarksville events for their previously scheduled visit of June 30th and July 1st. Clark said it appeared more events were planned for the Independence Day weekend here than in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, where the team initially planned to be Sunday and Monday. Thus, Tawny Clark and “Captain” Chris Staudinger will travel from Peachtree City, GA, to Fort Leonard Wood on Wednesday then depart for Clarksville on Saturday. [Read more]
Show Your Patriotic Spirit

Clarksville, TN – You can show your patriotic spirit by contributing a 3-foot-by-5-foot American Flag to be placed on the 101st Pedestrian Bridge. Flags can be donated in memory of or honor of a soldier or purely as a display of patriotism.
Donated American Flags will be placed on the 101st Pedestrian Bridge.
APSU’s New HSC Building Wins Prestigious Design Award

Clarksville, TN – Most Austin Peay State University students aren’t relying on the sundial atop the new Hemlock Semiconductor Building to get them to class on time, but Tom Bauer, with Bauer Askew Architecture PLLC, said his firm didn’t want to take any chances. They spent months researching and designing the sundial tower, which serves as a symbol of the solar technology being taught inside the facility, to make sure the archaic time-telling tool was as accurate as possible.
“That was a lot of fun, but it was challenging too,” he said.

Hands on Clarksville and The Center for Nonprofit Management to hold Nonprofit Training Workshops

Clarksville, TN – Hands on Clarksville and the Nonprofit Partnership Network’s July meeting will include a special training opportunity offered by The Center for Nonprofit Managment (CNM). CNM is offering the training to Montgomery County and surrounding areas.
The two, 2 1/2 hour workshops will provide information on the basics of grant writing and community partnerships. The goal of the these workshops is to help the community better understand the grant process and pursue collaborations with local business partners during these challenging economic times. Teen Citizen Police Academy Applications Being Accepted

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department will be hosting The Teen Citizen Police Academy, July 18th through July 22nd, 2011. The course is free and the curriculum includes crime scene investigation, narcotics investigation, K-9 unit, and much more.
The Teen Citizen Police Academy is for teens between the ages of 13-17. The times are 8:00am for Monday and 9:00am Tuesday through Friday, with pick up times no later than 2:45pm each day. The purpose of this academy is to create a better understanding between citizens and police through education. [Read more]
APSU student competing in Miss Tennessee Pageant

Clarksville, TN – Katie Neely, who was crowned Miss Austin Peay in November 2010, is in Jackson this week competing in the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Pageant.
Rehearsals, public appearances and competitions are scheduled for the entire week. The final night of competition ends Saturday, June 18th with the crowning of Miss Tennessee. The winner will go on to compete in Miss America later this year.
A 20-year-old junior at APSU, Katie is majoring in business administration.

2011 Fireball Run to Stop in Clarksville

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville has been selected as the sixth stop on the 2011 Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally on September 29th. This unique competition starts its southern excursion on September 23rd in Melbourne, FL, and ends October 1st in Gulfport, MS, with plenty of action and sights along the 2,500-mile route. Stompfest For Christ

Clarksville, TN – Remnant of Faith is hosting their 10th annual Stomp-fest for Christ! Stomp Fest weekend is June 17th and 18th. Friday June 17th is “Holy Hip Hop Night. Several artists from Nashville, Clarksville, and Hopkinsville will perform some of their popular contemporary Gospel songs. J-Rad, an upcoming signed artist, will be featured.
Other artists include Polo, Divine Purpose, John Keith, G’Man, Toney Dabney, Demontrey Ewing, Donte Mishawn, Anthony Whitlock, Antonio French, and Little G. AAU Basketball Tournament Volunteers Needed

Clarksville, TN – Volunteers are needed for the 2011 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) 7th Grade Girls’ Basketball National Championship, hosted by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Convention and Visitors Bureau, which will be held from Sunday, July 10th to Friday, July 15th.
This year, the tournaments will take place during the week at 12 different venues throughout the community. Volunteers are needed on Sunday during the day for registration and at 6:00pm to help line up athletes and work the opening ceremony. Responsibilities during the week-long tournaments will include checking player passes, selling tickets and programs and taking tickets. Volunteers will be needed from 7:30am to 8:30pm, Monday through Friday. [Read more]
