Austin Peay Provost Lecture Series features arts in economic hardships as next topic

Clarksville, TN – Despite what is happening in the economy, the arts can be a necessary component to hold a community together.
“In a time of such economic volatility, the arts are often overlooked as frivolous and less practical than other academic and technical skill areas, but frankly, the arts are a good investment for a community, a university and a family,” said Darren Michael, associate professor of acting and directing at Austin Peay State University.
Michael will discuss this topic in more detail as part of the next Provost Lecture Series. He will present “The Theatrical Stoplight: The Arts as an Educational, Social and Economic Cornerstone to the Community” from 3:00pm-4:30pm, Thursday, November 17th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. Volunteer Bell Ringers needed Thanksgiving through Christmas

Clarksville, TN – The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers this holiday season. Volunteers are needed Monday through Saturday, from 10:00am to 7:00pm, beginning November 10th, through December 24th, 2011.

APSU students can stay on track to Graduation with new Winter Term

Clarksville, TN – Students at Austin Peay State University wanting to get ahead and stay on track to graduation can take an online course during the University’s new Winter Term.
Winter Term courses begin December 18th and end January 27th. The new term offers undergraduate students the opportunity to complete one class in just six weeks. All courses are offered online and include in-demand courses.
The new term is expected to help students stay focused on completing credits toward a degree. [Read more]
Aspire Foundation Presents Clarksville-Montgomery County School System STEM Academy with Check

Clarksville, TN – At the November 8th Clarksville Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) Board meeting, Aspire Foundation Chairman, Terry Strange and Economic Development Council President and CEO, James Chavez presented the local school system with a $10,000 check to support the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program. The grant was provided through the privately funded Aspire Foundation.
“The Aspire Foundation has advocated for the adoption of the STEM curriculum throughout the school system,” said Strange. “Our goal is to promote STEM and the specialized opportunities that it presents for gifted and advanced students.” [Read more]
Parks and Recreation Facilities’ Hours to Change in Observance of Veterans Day
