“A Christmas Carol” opens tonight at the Roxy Regional Theatre

Clarksville, TN – A Christmas Carol opens tonight, November 25th, with “Toys for Tickets,” during which patrons can bring new, unwrapped toys in exchange for admission. Tickets will go on sale at 7:30pm, and donated toys will go to less fortunate children. The show starts at 8:00pm.
Friday night is also pay-what-you-can-night. All tickets not pre-sold at the regular ticket price when the box office opens that evening will go on sale for whatever price you wish to pay. [Read more]
New History Class to teach importance of preserving past

Clarksville, TN – Most of the papers had turned yellow and brittle. For years, they’d been hidden away in boxes inside offices in Stewart County. They were mostly old, out-dated legal documents, and since the county couldn’t afford to hire an archivist, they remained forgotten in their boxes.
Then one afternoon, Teresa Prober, a historian and history instructor at Austin Peay State University, volunteered to go through the papers. She was amazed by the historical significance of what she found.
“We found an original land grant from 1783, just sitting in a box,” she said. “We have a document with Sam Houston’s signature on it. In Stewart County.” [Read more]

Clarksville, TN – Volunteers have been working tirelessly at the Clarksville collection sites where thousands of shoe boxes packed with school supplies, toys and necessity items were dropped off by caring Clarksville residents.
National Collection Week is wrapping up for the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind—Operation Christmas Child—where participants fill empty shoe boxes with items for kids suffering from natural disaster, war, terrorism, famine, and poverty. Digital Sales Strong – Video Views Increase
Clarksville TN – Local singer/songwriter Lydia Walker’s recent weekend digital album release party and music video premiere was a grand success! The excitement was at full throttle at Chick-fil-a of Madison Street as family and friends packed the dining area to view Lydia’s new video – When I Dance – for the first time.
Guests were also treated to personal introductions of each new song featured on Lydia’s project – Beloved. Main co-writer and producer Curt Ryle was on hand to enjoy the celebration as well as Sarah Lejeune of Feeling Good Entertainment who produced the music video.

Improvement in Graduations best among Tennessee Universities
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University continues to move toward the 11,000-student mark. Figures for the Fall 2011 semester show a record enrollment of 10,873 students at APSU.
But APSU has more reason to celebrate. Not only is enrollment increasing, but APSU also is graduating more students than ever.
While growth in student enrollment is vital for any postsecondary institution, APSU, like other public institutions in Tennessee, is being assessed by retention and graduation performance. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University to celebrate 40-year anniversary of the ROTC

Clarksville, TN – In 1971, the U.S. Army established at Austin Peay State University the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) for recruiting, training and commissioning future Army officers.
In the 40 years since, hundreds of cadets have been commissioned at APSU as second lieutenants in the Army. The program also has earned the reputation as one of the nation’s finest, having won several awards for training and management performance standards. Austin Peay State University Library creates digital collection of student newspapers dating back to 1930

Clarksville, TN – What was the first day of basketball practice like for the Lady Govs way back in the fall of 1930? According to the November 26th edition of The All State, the student-run newspaper of Austin Peay Normal School, from that year, “Coach Jackson has started the old basketball grind with only a few of the 1929 squad back as candidates for their old positions on the team.”

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department invites kids and parents to enjoy the Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, during the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System’s holiday breaks!
This Wednesday, November 23rd, the indoor swimming facility will be having its weekly “Wibit Wednesday” featuring “The Aqua Run” floating obstacle course. Cost of admission is just $3.00 per person, plus a $2.00 wristband for all day Wibit access.
