Glenellen Elementary School Collects Pennies for Paws

Humane Society of Clarksville – Montgomery County (HSCMC)Clarksville, TN – The fifth grade classes of Ms. Morris, Ms. Hoyt, Ms. Blick, Ms. Summers, Ms. Moseley and Ms. Hall at Glenellen Elementary School recently competed for a pizza party by collecting pennies (although no form of money was turned away!) for the Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery County.

Ms. Hall’s class earned the pizza party raising nearly one-third of the total collected! But, the real winner was the Humane Society with an overall $331.22 raised.

Ms. Hall’s class raised the most money for the Humane Society and won the pizza party.

The APSU Music DepartmentClarksville, TN – One afternoon in the late 1880s, according to a popular legend, the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky met with the man he considered a “mediocre composer” – Johannes Brahms. The topic of their conversation quickly turned to music.

“I can only write something that is beautiful,” Tchaikovsky is rumored to have pompously said.

Stroller Time fitness program gives parents and caretakers the opportunity to burn calories while bonding this Spring at the Clarksville Greenway

Clarksville GreenwayClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will kick off the six-week fitness program, Stroller Time, Tuesday, April 10th at the Clarksville Greenway located at 1101 Pollard Road. Stroller Time provides an opportunity for mothers and children to socialize as well as exercise as they stroll down the Clarksville Greenway.

18th Annual Governors Bass Tournament set for May 12th

APSU Governors Bass TournamentClarksville, TN – The 18th Annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament is just around the corner.

This year’s edition will be held Saturday, May 12th, at Kentucky Lake, with registration and boat launching from Paris Landing State Park near Paris, TN. Last season’s tourney was postponed one week from May 22nd, due to high waters and flooding that enveloped the area. Despite the delay, the tourney still drew 243 boats.

Team sign ups are going on now. The Categories this year include ribs, chicken, pork and brisket. The pork and brisket categories have been added this year.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department announces winners of the Queen City Road Race Art Contest

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is happy to announce the winners of the Queen City Road Race Art Contest. Two finalists were selected from each of the participating elementary schools.

The overall winning artwork is featured on the official race T-shirt and event poster. Along with that honor, the top finalist has been awarded $100.00 for their art class. The top three finalists each won a Chick-fil-a party for their art class. Each finalist received a certificate and art kit which were presented at their schools.

Clarksville Sports FestivalClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation will be kicking off its second-annual Clarksville Sports Festival on Saturday, March 17th, at the Foy Fitness Center located on the campus of Austin Peay State University, with a variety of sports, athletic and outdoor activities for the entire family.

The day-long festival is a celebration of sports and athletics in Clarksville and Montgomery County that will feature not only clinics, sports demonstrations and interactive areas, but also seminars and even an exposition area where over 20 of Clarksville and Montgomery County’s athletic and outdoor clubs, businesses and organizations will come together in one location.
