Clarksville, TN – “I’m so glad that you did not close!” is a common exclamation these days as customers arrive at Fabric Outlet, the not-to-be-missed purple building at 211 Holiday Drive in Clarksville. Current owners Rose Pollard and Joyce Turner rescued the business when the former owners decided they wanted to sell.

The announcement that “We’re going out of business!” was greeted by one customer with “But what will Clarksville do? What will the nation do!” as she couldn’t stand the thought of not being able to buy upholstery and drapery fabrics locally. When Rose and Joyce considered that alternative, they decided the only answer was to keep Fabric Outlet open and improve its offerings.

Clarksville Area Ministerial Association Clarksville, TN – On May 17th, 2012 the Clarksville Area Ministerial Association (CAMA) held its final luncheon meeting until fall. After prayer and a hearty meal prepared by Hilldale UMC volunteers, the meeting began with a treasurer’s report and updates about the new officers for CAMA that will begin their appointed roles concluding the summer break.

Liberty Park - Clarksville MarinaClarksville, TN – Liberty Park opened yesterday morning at dawn and Clarksvillians were ready and waiting for the opening of the park areas of the new Clarksville Marina.

Fishermen were the first on hand. They had been eying the pond for months looking forward for the chance to be one of the first anglers to try their luck there. By 10:00am around 20 anglers had staked out their positions around the banks.

Clarksville Downtown Market opens tomorrow

Clarksville Downtown MarketClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Downtown Market opens at 8:00am Saturday, May 19th with approximately 60 vendors on hand to offer local fresh produce, baked goods, home décor, seasonal flowers and more. There will be live music by Lydia Walker.

For the kids. there will be be gardening crafts to participate in. Lousie Delgandio will be on hand to demonstrate how to make crepes. The first 600 visitors to the market, can visit the Clarksville Parks and Recreation booth to take home their very own market tote bag. There will also be give-a-ways handed out every thirty minutes.

The Clarksville Downtown Market will be open from 8:00am to 1:00pm every Saturday through October 19th on Public Square.

Planters Bank donates over $1,800 to Rossview Schools

Planters BankClarksville, TN – Planters Bank Vice President Stacey Wenzler presented a check to Rossview Elementary School Principal Paula Ford Thursday, May 17th, 2012. The bank donated more than $1,800 to Rossview Elementary School, Rossview Middle School, and Rossview High school during the school year.

The donation was based on the number of accounts opened at the bank’s Rossview Branch, which opened last August at 495 Dunlop Lane.

Roxy Regional Theatre’s 30th Anniversary Season to begin with Dolly Parton Musical 9 to 5

Roxy Regional TheatreClarksville, TN – The Roxy Regional Theatre, Clarksville’s oldest live theatre and only professional theatre, unveils its 30th Anniversary Season.

Under the direction of Tom Thayer, executive director, and John McDonald, artistic director, the theatre will kick off the 2012-2013 season with the Dolly Parton musical 9 to 5: The Musical. Starring Bailey Hanks of Broadway’s Legally Blonde, it will open on September 14th. [Read more]

Clarksville Police Department adds Six New Officers today

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is happy to welcome six new officers to their ranks today. Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan administered the Oath of Office to the Police Department’s newest additions.

They will attend the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy from May 27th – August 3rd, 2012.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department announces Local Hershey Track and Field Winners

Top Winners Advance to District Competition

Hershey Track and FieldClarksville, TN – The annual local Hershey Track and Field Competition was held May 12th at Rossview High School. The competition gives young athletes a chance to showcase their skills in track and field, long jump and softball throw.

The first- and second-place athletes in each division of the local competition advanced to the District Hershey Track and Field Competition in Nashville on June 16th at E.S. Rose Park.
