Movies in the Park to feature “Inception” staring Leonardo DiCaprio this Saturday

Clarksville, TN – Join Clarksville Parks and Recreation Saturday, August 18th, 2012 at Heritage Park Soccer fields for this month’s Movies in the Park event, featuring the 2010 American science fiction and action film – “Inception”- rated PG-13. Parental supervision is strongly recommended due to language and sexual content.
Inception is a 2010 American science fiction/action heist film written, co-produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Dileep Rao, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, and Michael Caine.

WJZM Radio transfers Ownership

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville’s original radio station, WJZM1400am, has transferred ownership. In a joint announcement this week, previous owner, Hank Bonecutter, said he had agreed to sell the corporation to local businessmen David Loos Jr, Greg Walker, and Mike Parchman. The sale became official on Tuesday.
“My wife and I are extremely excited about the sale,” said Bonecutter. “We have put a lot of hard work into WJZM, and this opportunity only comes along once in a lifetime to go out on your terms. I have dedicated my broadcasting career to the Clarksville-Fort Campbell community, bringing news, sports and current events to the public as reliable and credible as I can be. Clarksville, TN– Clarksville is proud to be a part of the Corporation for National and Community Service 2012 September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance. There is no day in history that has the same power to unite us in service like 9/11.
Be a part of this remarkable initiative to honor 9/11 victims, survivors and those who rose up in service in response the attacks by volunteering in your community. Volunteers and volunteer leaders are needed to help with various local service activities.

APSU History Honor Society wins fourth Best Chapter of the Year

Clarksville, TN – Earlier this week, Austin Peay State University associate professor of history Dr. Minoa Uffelman asked if there was such a word as “four-peat.” She knows the word “repeat” well.
That’s what the University’s Phi Alpha Theta (PAT) history honor society did back in 2010 when they were named the Nation’s Best Chapter for the second year in a row. In 2011, she used the word “three-peat” because the PAT club she advises was again singled out as the top chapter in the nation. [Read more]
Registration begins soon for the Riverfest Tour d’Art Exhibits and Competition

Clarksville, TN – This year’s competition will feature the following three exhibits: Amateur & Professional Divisions, High School Division, and the Senior Citizens’ Division. Artwork is displayed at exhibits at various locations in downtown Clarksville, and then juried, and over $2,500 in prizes is awarded.
The Amateur & Professional Division exhibit will be hosted at the Smith-Trahern Mansion September 7th from 10:00am-8:00pm and September 8th from 10:00am-5:00pm. Artists may enter in six categories: Painting & Watercolor, Drawing, 3D/Fiber Arts, Mixed Media & Print Collage, Digital Photography and Film Photography.

Call for Artwork Submissions for 2013 Cultural Calendar

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development Council (AHDC) is putting out a call to all artists who are interested in having their work featured in its fifth annual Cultural Calendar.
Each month will feature an artist’s work and highlight arts and heritage events of the past and present. Submitted work will be juried to determine which piece is featured each month, as well as which artwork appears on the cover. [Read more]
APSU breaks ground on New Math and Computer Science Building August 17th

Clarksville, TN – Earlier this year, a narrow brick house off Ford Street, behind the Austin Peay State University Hemlock Semiconductor Building, was torn down. All that remains in its absence is a dirt lot, with a few patches of grass and gravel covering it.
At 10:00am on August 17th, shovels will plunge into that dry earth to mark the beginning of construction on APSU’s new $6.7 million mathematics and computer science building. The two-story classroom building, designed by Rufus Johnson Associates, is projected to open in the spring of 2014.

Riverfest Lighted Boat Parade

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday night, September 8th, sit back and watch as the Cumberland River is illuminated in a majestic display of floating lights during the 5th Annual Riverfest Lighted Boat Parade. Don’t want to just be a bystander in the show? Enter your boat in the festivities and you may even come home with an award!
Judging will take place at the McGregor Park courtesy boat dock. Locations throughout McGregor Park during the Riverfest Celebration will offer public viewing. In the event of inclement weather, boats will be judged at the Montgomery County Conservation Club and boats will not be expected to travel the parade route. Award results will be announced onstage after the completion of the parade.

Riverfest to hold First Annual Recycled Fashion Show September 8th

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, September 8th, 2012 Riverfest will hold the First Annual Recycled Fashion Show. This free event is intended to educate the general public about recycling in a fun and interactive environment. Students and adults of all ages are invited to show their created fashions made from recycled materials.
The show will start at 4:00pm on the Blue Cross Blue Shield Stage at McGregor Park.

Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, June 20th at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Hospital. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall. The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public.
