Austin Peay State University Provost Lecture Series: Art professor to present session this week

Clarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University art professor will present the next session of the Provost Lecture Series this week at APSU.
Paul Collins, gallery director and assistant professor of art, will present at 3:00pm, Thursday, April 18th in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. His lecture will be about the Living Gallery Program, an experimental approach in using arts exhibition programming to engage students.
The Living Gallery Program was developed with funds from APSU’s Summer Faculty Research Program grants. [Read more]
Clarksville resident Russ Shemberger places in top 10 at Murray Half-Marathon

Clarksville, TN – Russ Shemberger, a licensed massage therapist at Restore Performance Massage on Madison Street in Clarksville, finished sixth overall in the Murray Half-Marathon on Saturday, April 13th in Murray, Kentucky.
Shemberger finished the 13.1-mile course in 1:37:08 and won his age group (male 45-49).
Shemberger is a veteran triathlete.

Aspire to Stardom talent contest at Rivers and Spires Saturday, April 20th

Clarksville, TN – Aspire to Stardom, a local talent contest for talented young children across Tennessee, will showcase the finalists and choose a winner on Saturday April 20th during Rivers and Spires.

Rivers and Spires Festival kicks off Thursday, April 18th

Rivers and Spires is being held April 18th-20th.
Clarksville, TN – This weekend, the place to be is Downtown Clarksville, Tennessee for the 11th annual Rivers and Spires Festival. The Festival begins Thursday, April 18th and runs through Saturday, April 20th.
The streets will be filled with with craft and food vendors, five music stages, kids’ activities and artisan booths. So come out for a great time.

Gateway Chamber Orchestra brings powerful Mahler work to Middle Tennessee May 5th-6th

Clarksville, TN – In 1907, the great Austrian composer Gustav Mahler had a bad year. First, he lost his job as director of the Vienna State Opera. Then, in July, his young daughter Maria died after a brief illness. While grieving this loss, Mahler was diagnosed with a terminal heart condition.
In the months that followed, the composer found solace in a book of Chinese Tang Dynasty poetry titled “The Chinese Flute.” As he read the works, translated into German, a composition slowly took shape in his head.

Clarksville’s Rivers and Spires Festival to feature U.S. Army’s Orange County Chopper

Clarksville, TN – The U.S. Army’s famed Orange County Chopper will be making its first appearance in Middle Tennessee since 2011 at this weekend’s Rivers and Spires Festival in Clarksville.
The detailed motorcycle will be on display both Friday and Saturday at Rivers and Spires in downtown Clarksville, TN. It will be located in the Military Appreciation area near the intersection of Commerce street and 2nd street.
The OCC is shown here during its set up at LP Field in November 2011 for the Titans-Bengals NFL football game. It returns to Middle Tennessee April 19th and 20th during Rivers and Spires in downtown Clarksville. (U.S. Army photo)
