Montgomery Central High School Football Fall Festival draws larger than expected crowd

Montgomery Central High SchoolClarksville, TN – On Saturday, September 14th, the Montgomery Central High School Football Boosters held their 1st annual Fall Festival at Hilltop Supermarket.

The festival was held to raise money for the MCHS Football team. The money will be used for equipment, jerseys, and other team needs.

“The event was amazing. The turn out was phenomenal. I was really not expecting this many people and this many kids,” stated Indians Football head coach Jeff Tomlinson. “I thought it was a great turn out.”

Miss Tennessee USA Pageant Tickets on Sale Now

Clarksville-Montgomery County Convention and Visitors BureauClarksville, TN – Mark your calendars, because the Queens will be back in Clarksville for the 15th year in a row. Brought to you by Greenwood Productions, the 2015 Miss Tennessee USA and Miss Tennessee Teen USA Pageant will be held on October 3rd and 4th at the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall in Austin Peay State University Music and Mass Communications Building.

The preliminary show will take place on Friday, October 3rd at 6:30pm. The finals will be broken down into two shows, with the Teens competing at 3:00pm and the Miss contestants competing at 7:30pm. Both the Miss and Teen winners will represent the State of Tenneessee at the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants in 2015.

Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for September 23rd through September 29th, 2014

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. There are programs for children and adults.

Some of the upcoming events include: Wildflower Hike, Dunbar Cave History, Life of the Lake, National Public Lands Day Hike and Trail Cleanup, National Public Lands Day Hike at Port Royal, and Bird Hike.

Austin Peay State University to Open New Dewald Pavilion at APSU Farm on September 23rd

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN On a mild December afternoon in 2012, a crowd of local farmers, agri-businessmen and dignitaries gathered around an old hay barn to contemplate the future of the Austin Peay State University Department of Agriculture.

Student enrollment in that program had increased an astounding 82 percent in recent years, but some of the facilities at the APSU Farm and Environmental Education Center, known simply as the farm, didn’t reflect this growth.

The Sept. 23 event will begin with a dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by a ribbon cutting at 6:15 p.m. and a special bull auction. The auction will feature the sale of APSU’s finest bull stock, “Big John,” named in memory of John Bartee Sr., former founding member of the APSU agriculture advisory committee. Proceeds from the sale will go to the University farm.

Austin Peay State University hosting documentary film series

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Honors Program is partnering with the Nashville Film Festival, Nashville Public Television and Lipscomb University to bring documentaries on social issues to the Middle Tennessee community this fall.

The APSU Honors Program will present the first film in the series, “Big Men,” at 7:00pm, on September 17th, in the APSU Morgan University Center, Room 305. The film, produced by Brad Pitt, examines the impact of oil development in Ghana and the Niger delta. [Read more]

Exhibition at APSU showcases rare WWI photographs

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Art and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts are excited to present an exhibition of rare German photographs this fall to mark the centennial of the start of World War 1.

German soldier Fritz Einstein took the photographs on three separate fronts during the war. The photos were discovered and extensively restored by Einstein’s son and Nashville resident Frank Einstein.

The Clarksville Downtown Market also came in 19th in the Top 100 Most Celebrated Farmers Markets in America for 2014.

The I Love My Farmers Market Celebration encouraged consumers to pledge to spend $10.00 at their local farmers market. Each pledge honored our nation’s hardworking farmers, our community, and the Clarksville Downtown Market.
