Clarksville, TN – The economic data were mixed. The estimate of second quarter gross domestic product (GDP) growth was revised upward from 4.2% to 4.6%, as expected.
Existing home sales fell in August, reflecting a decline in speculators (i.e., fewer all-cash transactions). New home sales surged 18.9%, but that likely reflects the usual volatility in the data.
Durable goods orders fell 18%, reflecting an unwinding of July’s sharp spike in civilian aircraft orders. The three-month averages of shipments and orders for nondefense capital goods (ex-aircraft) suggest good strength in business fixed investments.

CDE Lightband Achieves Perfect Score on Safety Audit 3rd Year in a Row

Clarksville, TN – CDE Lightband recently achieved a perfect score during a facilities safety audit coordinated by Tennessee Valley Public Power Association and Distributors Insurance Company. Less than five percent of utility participants in the Tennessee Valley have obtained such a score historically.
Steve Powell, a 39-year veteran with utility business and a Certified Utility Safety Administrator, conducted the audit. [Read more]
American Bus Association names Rivers and Spires one of North America’s 100 Best Events for 2015

Clarksville, TN – The American Bus Association (ABA) recently announced that the Rivers And Spires Festival, April 16th-18th, 2015, has been designated as one of the Top 100 Events in North America for 2015. This will mark the third time the Festival has received this award.
Inclusion in the Top 100 list, published as a supplement to the September/October issue of Destinations magazine, indicates that Rivers And Spires offers excellent entertainment value to both tour groups and individual travelers from around the world, according to ABA.

Clarksville, TN – The Kleeman Community Center and the Indoor Aquatic Center will be scaring up some Halloween fun with their second-annual Spooky Spectacular and Haunted Maze & Swim on Saturday, October 18th.
The Spooky Spectacular will be open from 2:00pm to 5:00pm with a Haunted Maze and Haunted Swim following from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at both facilities, located side-by-side at 166 Cunningham Lane.
APSU promises scholarships to all of state’s high-achieving community college grads

Clarksville, TN – Beginning this fall, Austin Peay State University will guarantee scholarships to all Tennessee Board of Regents community college and Hopkinsville Community College graduates who have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Titled the APSU Promise, the new scholarship program aims to bring more high-caliber students to campus in the coming years.
