Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for October 9th through October 11th, 2014

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. There are programs for children and adults.

Some of the upcoming events include: Walk With the Naturalist, History of Dunbar Cave and Bird Hike.

Prized bull brings in $14,500 for APSU Agriculture Department

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Big John, an 1,800-pound bull, was a source of pride for the Austin Peay State University Department of Agriculture. Students on the department’s beef show team took the animal to several regional shows, where his size and power often impressed the judges.

Last month, the University decided to sell this prize-winning animal, with the hope of earning a few thousand dollars for the growing Department of Agriculture. During a special sale on Sept. 23 at the APSU Farm, three bidders joined together to buy Big John for $14,500.

International journal to publish several articles by APSU nursing faculty

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The international journal Nursing Clinics of North America is considered one of the top scholarly publications in that field, and the spring issue, known as a clinic, will feature articles by 11 Austin Peay State University School of Nursing faculty members.

The nursing professors were selected to contribute to the publication because Dr. Chita Farrar, APSU professor of nursing, was invited to guest edit the issue.

Kiara Young Crowned Miss Tennessee USA 2015 in Clarksville Saturday night

Clarksville Area Chamber of CommerceClarksville, TN – Miss Tennessee USA was crowned Saturday night, making her Tennessee’s next hopeful in the 2015 Miss USA pageant.

Miss Greater Nashville, Kiara Young, accepted her new crown from the reigning Miss Tennessee USA, Kristy Landers Niedenfuer of Nashville. Niedenfuer also placed in the top 20 at the Miss USA pageant this past June in Baton Rouge.

Quarterly gains endure September’s volatility

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – There’s still time to register your child for this season of Youth Basketball, but you’d better hurry! Registration for the Youth Basketball League will be closing on October 6th.
