Clarksville, TN – The Federal Open Market Committee left short-term interest rates unchanged, but the tone of the policy statement was unexpectedly hawkish. The FOMC removed the phrase about downside risks from the global economy, but said that it would monitor global economic and financial developments.
It also specifically talked about the decision framework for “the next meeting,” clearly putting a December 16th rate hike back in play.

Young Professionals Network hosted Handbags for Hope

Clarksville, TN – The Young Professionals Network (YPN) of the Clarksville Association of Realtors (CAR) hosted the second Handbags for Hope charity event, benefiting Urban Ministries’ The SafeHouse, on Saturday, August 15th raising $51,067.
Handbags for Hope was held at the Riverview Inn located at 50 College Street.
Acuff Circle of Excellence seeking nominations for Ovation Awards

Clarksville, TN – The coveted Acuff Circle of Excellence Ovation Awards in the arts will be presented March 6th, 2016, but nominations already are being sought.
The Circle, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Austin Peay State University Foundation, is a patron society of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts. The awards have been presented since 1996.

Calling All Prospective Cratchit Children: Auditions for “A Christmas Carol” at the Roxy Regional Theatre on Monday, November 2nd

Clarksville, TN – Local youth will have the opportunity to work alongside professional actors in “A Christmas Carol” when the Roxy Regional Theatre holds auditions for the Cratchit children on Monday, November 2nd, at 5:00pm.
The Roxy will be selecting multiple casts of the Cratchit children (Martha, Peter, Belinda and Tiny Tim), so children need not be able to participate in all performances, but they may need to miss some school in order to participate in weekday matinees for school groups.

Austin Peay State University business fraternity makes pledge toward endowed scholarship

Clarksville, TN – The national Alpha Kappa Psi (AKPsi) business fraternity turned 111-years-old earlier this month, and to commemorate the birthday, members of Austin Peay State University’s award-winning Zeta Phi Chapter decided to fund an endowed scholarship in honor of the organization’s longevity.

Clarksville, TN – The Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, invites children and adults with mental or physical disabilities to Adaptive Swim Day on Friday, October 30th from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
Learn more about our Adaptive Swim Lessons, become familiar with the pool and meet our instructors. Swimmers will have the opportunity to get in the water, access the Wibits, and enjoy crafts and refreshments.
APSU Philosophy Club presents November 4th debate on the existence of God

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Philosophy Club, in partnership with Students for Secular Humanist, will present a debate on the presence of a higher power in society titled, “Does God Exist: A Debate Between Dr. John Ferrer and Mr. Matt Dillahunty.”
