Austin Peay Active Minds chapter to hold “Send Silence Packing” suicide prevention event on April 8th

Clarksville, TN – On Friday, April 8th, APSU will display “Send Silence Packing,” a nationally recognized public exhibition of 1,100 backpacks representing the number of students who die by suicide every year.
The event is organized by the APSU chapter of Active Minds, the nation’s leading non-profit organization working to engage students in changing the conversation about mental health. Austin Peay State University is one of 11 college campuses in eight states hosting an event during the group’s Spring 2016 tour.

Clarksville, TN – In her speech, Fed Chair Yellen indicated that “given the risks, I consider it appropriate for the [FOMC] to proceed cautiously in adjusting policy.” This dovish stance was taken well by financial market participants.
Yellen emphasized that the Fed’s projections (such as the dots in the dot plot) are expectations and “not a plan written in stone.” Fed policy decisions will remain data-dependent, but Yellen stressed that the central bank has a limited ability to respond to downside shocks to the economy.

Clarksville Leaders Visit Decatur-Morgan County, Alabama for Annual Intercity Visit

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce has recently returned from its annual Intercity Visit on March 29th and 30th in Decatur, Alabama.
The trip gives business and community leaders the opportunity to tour and meet with other leaders to learn how cities similar to Clarksville-Montgomery County manage their growth, development and community best practices.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation seeks Public Input for State Grant to Improve Swan Lake Aquatic Center

Clarksville, TN – As part of an application for grant funding through the State of Tennessee’s Department of Environment and Conservation, the City of Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting public meetings to give citizens an opportunity to comment on a proposed project at the Swan Lake Pool located at 2002 Sanders Road in Clarksville.
Annual Women’s History Month Exhibition at Customs House Museum

Clarksville, TN – Each year the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center features the art of women in celebration of Women’s History Month. This year, Tennessee women artisans are showcased in the newly renovated Kimbrough Gallery. The exhibit, titled A Woman’s Touch, includes sculpture, jewelry, clothing, furniture, printmaking, and ceramics.
Participating in the exhibit are artists Kim Winkle, Anne Rob, Claudia Lee, Susan DeMay, Jeanie Stephenson, Jennifer Knowles, Virginia Fisher, Jennifer Crescuillo, Vicki Vipperman, Brenda Stein, and Melina Ludwig.

APSU professor Darren Michael publishes first full-length play, “Scarecrows Will Never See the Sunset”

Clarksville, TN – As a child growing up in Arkansas, Darren Michael often heard stories about the town of Smackover. Thanks to the oil boom of the 1920s and 1930s, thousands flocked to the southern town in search of fortune.
Predictably, however, when the oil wells ran dry, those residents left as quickly as they came – and the city atrophied.
Customs House Museum April 2016 Exhibits and Activities

Clarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is located in historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee. Come explore an entire city block featuring large gallery spaces filled with fine art, science and history.
Some of the events in November at the Museum are: A Woman’s Touch: Celebrating Tennessee Crafts, James Alexander: Sculptural Thinkings, Elizabeth LaPenna: Expressions in Color, A Time of Mourning, Cast of Blues, Hook Rug Demonstration, and Women Writers Hour.
Clarksville Transit System will begin Service to Industrial Park Monday, April 4th

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan is excited to announce that the Clarksville Transit System will begin offering bus service to the Clarksville – Montgomery County Industrial Park beginning April 4th, 2016.
“People have been asking for this service for a long time,” explained Mayor McMillan, “But in order to provide the service, we had to have the Urbanized Area in our Metropolitan Transportation Plan extended.”
