Clarksville Weekly Market Snapshot from Frazier Allen for the week of September 18th, 2016

September 18, 2016

F&M Investment Services - Raymond James - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Fed Governor Lael Brainard, a dove, presented her case for why the central bank should delay an increase in short-term interest rates. While her views are her own (not representative of the Fed as a whole), a more hawkish tilt would have raised the odds of a September rate hike.

The key economic data reports were on the soft side of expectations, but were still consistent with moderate growth in the near term. Retail sales disappointed in August. Industrial production unwound a seasonal quirk that boosted July figures. CPI figures surprise slightly to the upside.

Austin Peay State University APSU student Nicole Santoyo offers artistic take on “modern” life in the South

September 16, 2016

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Art can be seen as a window into the world, and Austin Peay State University art and biology double major Nicole Santoyo’s recent work has done that, offering a look into a familiar world through the lenses of an unfamiliar visitor.

Santoyo was awarded a 2015-16 Presidential Research Scholarship (PRS) for her presentation, titled “Southern Epic: Addressing Contemporary Tennessean Life,” a series of oil paintings addressing what she saw as a misrepresentation of the South; namely, a tendency to focus on presenting life in states like Tennessee as more idyllic and glamorous than the reality.
