Fright on Franklin Costume Contest Registration Now Available

Clarksville, TN – The 8th Annual Fright on Franklin, presented by The City of Clarksville and Altra Federal Credit Union, will take place on Saturday, October 29th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm in Downtown Clarksville.
This free, family-friendly event is for adults and kids of all ages and will feature safe trick-or-treating, a hayride, costume contests, and much more!
Austin Peay State University service-learning class teaches computer literacy to senior citizens

Clarksville, TN – Forget your cell phone, your tablet or any other mobile device, and try to imagine that you’re sitting at a desktop computer for the very first time. How do you use the mouse? What is the “F1” button for on the keyboard? How do you access the Internet?
“Technology has been pervasive in my life since kindergarten, so there’s a lot of things about computers that we take for granted,” Blake Crozier, an Austin Peay State University computer science student, said. “Things that we intuitively understand have to be taught with sensitivity to many senior citizens.”
The Magical Work of Aaron Grayum Comes to the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center

Clarksville, TN – Through October 30th, 2016, the Planters Bank Peg Harvill Gallery of the Customs House Museum features light-hearted paintings by Nashville Tennessee artist Aaron Grayum.
Large works featuring circus characters within powdery blue and yellow background dance throughout the gallery walls, lacing a sense of nostalgia into the contemporary paintings.
Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale begins Thursday, October 27th

Internationally recognized artist Janine Antoni to visit Austin Peay State University October 13th

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Art and Design, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, will host a lecture by internationally recognized artist Janine Antoni at 7:00pm on October 13th in the Trahern Theater.
Antoni’s talk is part of the art and design department’s 2016-17 Visiting Artist Speaker Series.
Final Screening of 2016 Movies in the Park Saturday, October 8th

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Movies in the Park, the City’s free, outdoor movie series concludes Saturday, October 8th at Liberty Park, 1190 Cumberland Drive with the showing of Jurassic World.
Pre-show activities will begin at 5:00pm and include Gamez on Wheelz game truck and Jurassic Park jeep displays from the actual movie, Jurassic Park!

APSU students join area historians in exploring Fort Defiance

Clarksville, TN – Located on a bluff some 200 feet above the meeting point of the Red River and the Cumberland River, Fort Defiance served a significant role in Clarksville’s participation in the Civil War.
Viewed by Confederates as an ideal site to defend the river approach to Clarksville, the fort eventually was captured by Union forces, who occupied the site for the remainder of the war.
