Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) invites the public to come to their Home for the Paw-lidays event on Saturday, December 10th! Adoption hours will be 10:00am to 3:00pm and all adoptions are $25.00 and include vaccinations, spay/neuter, deworming and microchip.
Dog adoption fees are being sponsored by Tails for Trails and cats adoption fees are being sponsored by the Potvin family.
APSU redefining first-year experience through “Foundations of Excellence” education project

The project, sponsored by the John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education, will use a model of excellence to redefine the first-year college experience at Austin Peay.
Noted Artist Anton Weiss Exhibiting at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center

Clarksville, TN – The Crouch Gallery of the Customs House Museum celebrates the career of Anton Weiss. The works on display in the exhibition Anton Weiss: Reaching for Infinity represent the creativity of the artist from the 1970s to 2016, in both 2D and 3D pieces.
Visitors are greeted upon entry to the show with Pangea Column. A tall work of art comprised of copper, aluminum, and bronze, it acts almost as an exhibition guard, full of Weiss’ signature earthy hues.

APSU physics professor receives $300,000 NSF grant to conduct research on innovative glass materials

Clarksville, TN – Crystalline materials form the foundation of virtually all electronic equipment, serve as the engine powering Silicon Valley and have enabled the modern computing revolution.
But despite their importance, crystalline materials, which include silicon and sapphire and are valued for their unique properties, are naturally rare and expensive to produce. By contrast glass materials, which do not arrange their atoms in a regular crystal structure, are inexpensive and easily produced.

For the past few years, Austin Peay State University undergraduate students and professors have been traveling the globe to work with some of the world’s leading experts in glass production as they explore possible substitutes for crystalline materials in computing, optical technology and other modern applications.

Clarksville, TN – There was a ton of economic data, most of it consistent with moderately strong growth in the near term. Nonfarm payrolls rose in line with expectations in November.
The unemployment rate fell to 4.6% (the lowest since August 2007), but that was partly due to a drop in labor force participation. Average hourly earnings fell 0.1%, following a 0.4% rise in October, up 2.5% y/y (still trending higher, but more moderately than it appeared a month ago).

CDE Lightband opens New Control Center

High-tech facility allows real-time monitoring, repair of power system
Clarksville, TN – CDE Lightband, the City of Clarksville’s electric power and broadband services utility, showed off its new control center last Thursday, December 1st, 2016.
The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition center, or SCADA, is the nerve center of CDE’s electric power delivery system. Using CDE Lightband’s fiber optic network, technicians in the center now monitor the system in real time, diagnose outages, redirect the flow of power if necessary and direct repairs.
