Fraternity alumni endow new scholarship at APSU

Clarksville, TN – Forty years before Leonard Hamilton became Florida State University’s winningest head basketball coach, he was a young graduate assistant on the coaching staff at Austin Peay State University.
Prior to his arrival, he’d been initiated into the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, and while on campus, Hamilton encouraged a group of motivated young men to establish a chapter at Austin Peay.
APSU alumnus Cory Schantz to perform Guest Artist Recital on February 8th

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Music Department will present baritone Cory Schantz in a Guest Artist Recital on Thursday, February 8th, 2018 at 7:30pm in the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will include songs and arias by Mozart, Korngold and Ibert, as well as a new song cycle, “Songs of Experience,” by American composer, Daren Hagen. He will conclude the program with well-known selections from “The Man of La Mancha.”
Austin Peay State University’s Amanda Walker appointed to Tennessee Regional Planning Commission

Clarksville, TN – Amanda Walker, director of career services at Austin Peay State University, was recently appointed to the State of Tennessee Regional Planning Commission for the Clarksville-Montgomery County Region.
Walker was nominated by Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and was confirmed by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Office.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation now accepting vendor applications for Downtown Market

Award-winning venue to open season May 26th
Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Downtown Market is accepting vendor applications for its 2018 season. Since opening in 2009, the Downtown Market each year has been voted the American Farmland Trust’s “People’s Choice” winner as the best farmers’ market in Tennessee.
The 2018 market season will be 8:00am to 1:00pm Saturdays from May 26th to October 13th in downtown Clarksville on Public Square.
The fee for a full-time vendor, selling at all 20 market days, is $225.00. The fee for part-time vendors, selling at 10 market days, is $175.00. Fill-in vendors pay $25.00 per market day. All vendor spaces include one white 10-by-10 feet tent, one table, one chair and access to electricity.

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Diversity Committee, in cooperation with the APSU Center for Service-Learning & Community Engagement, partnered with Rise Against Hunger, an international hunger relief non-profit organization, to package and distribute thousands of meals for distribution to those in need on January 19th, in honor of APSU’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

Spring 2018 AP Day for prospective APSU students is February 3rd

During AP Day, prospective students can tour campus, meet with academic departments and student organizations and hear from important offices such as admissions, housing and financial aid.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation forming Spring Adult Softball Leagues

Team registration is available for these leagues: Sunday (Men’s), Monday (Over 45), Tuesday (True Co-Ed), Wednesday (Men’s), Thursday (Women’s) and Friday (Church Co-Ed).

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Association of Realtors® (CAR) reports that the average daily number of properties on the market for 2017 was 1548, which is a 17.7% decrease from 2016’s average (1880).
Also, for 2017, the average price of properties currently for sale was $221,000, which is 10.0% greater than 2016 ($199,000).

The New Gallery at Austin Peay presents “John Douglas Powers: The Four Winds”

Clarksville, TN – The New Gallery, with support from the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the APSU Department of Art + Design, is continuing its exciting 2017-18 season with its newest exhibition, “John Douglas Powers: The Four Winds.”
Powers, who made a name for himself with large-scale, intricate and finely crafted kinetic sculptures, is coming to The New Gallery fresh off of a year-long Guggenheim Fellowship.
