Santa visits Community Centers

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Burt-Cobb and Kleeman Community Centers will each be visited by Santa this holiday season. Families are welcome to take photos of their children as they visit Santa, enjoy snacks and games, all at no cost.

Santa will be making his appearance at the Burt-Cobb Center December 13th from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Festivities at the Kleeman Center will take place from 6:00pm-7:00pm on December 14th.

Countdown is on for the opening of the Indoor Aquatic Center

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks & Recreation is looking forward to the opening of the much anticipated Indoor Aquatic Center. Beginning mid December, New Providence Pool, located at Cunningham Lane, will get a new look- it will be sheltered with a bubble like dome to allow for year-round use.

The Indoor Aquatic Center will officially open to the public, January 3rd, 2011, with a grand opening celebration taking place, Saturday, January 8th, 2011 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. This celebration will give the public the opportunity to learn more about the center by offering free admission all day long. [Read more]

Clarksville’s 4th Annual Downtown for the Holidays

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Be a part of a Clarksville tradition by celebrating this year at the 4th Annual Downtown for the Holidays celebration presented by the City of Clarksville and US Bank, in Downtown Clarksville, December 4th beginning at 3:00pm.

The event kicks off with the Jingle Bell Jog 5K sponsored by the City of Clarksville and R3. The race will begin at 3:00pm, followed by a youth run at 3:45pm. You can register now at www.active.com. Deadline to register is December 2nd.

Kleeman Community Center to host Quick Silver Social Event

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Kleeman Community Center is taking their Senior Dances to another level! The Quick Silver Social which will feature games, music, dancing, and food will take place Saturday, November 20th, 2010 from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

This event is free of charge and open to those ages 50 and up. The Kleeman Community Center is located at 166 Cunningham Lane.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation Seeks Input for the Proposed Additions to the Clarksville Greenway System

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville’s Parks & Recreation department recently held a Public Input Review and Comment Session to receive ideas and suggestions concerning two proposed additions to the Clarksville Greenway System and also to satisfy Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) grant requirements.

Winter Gym Program to Begin November 1st

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Every year, the Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department partners with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System to provide a free winter gymnasium program for basketball and other indoor recreational free play in addition to Clarksville’s three staffed community center. The program which runs from November 1st through March 30th will be offered at Byrns-Darden Elementary School’s gymnasium from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, Monday through Wednesday evenings.

There is no charge for use of the facility; however participants must register on site. A responsible adult must accompany children under the age of 13.

Bird Watching at the Greenway

Clarksville GreenwayClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department invites you to join us at the Clarksville Greenway located at 1101 Pollard Road, Saturday, October 23rd from 8:00am-9:00am to learn birding basics and how to identify species of birds. This event is free and open to the public.

After bird watching, be sure to continue exploring the 3.6-mile trail which is part of the rails to trails initiative, envisioned to clear out old railroad tracks, converting them into trails. Since its opening in September of last year, Clarksville Greenway has added, any new features to include benches, swings, parking area, and will soon be opening a restroom facility located at the trail head.
