Registration for the 33rd Annual Queen City Road Race has begun

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – It’s that time of year again to lace up those running shoes and begin preparing for the 33rd Annual Queen City Road Race scheduled for Sunday, May 1st.

The Queen City Road Race event is a Clarksville tradition promoting fitness and fun for all ages. The 5K race route takes runners through the streets of Historic Downtown Clarksville, beginning and ending at Austin Peay State University’s Governors Stadium, while the One Mile Movement takes you on an exciting tour of a portion of the APSU campus. Despite record-breaking rainfall during last year’s race, hundreds of Clarksville-Montgomery County and Fort Campbell school students, teachers and family members participated.

Parks & Recreation announces winners of the Queen City Road Race Art Contest

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is happy to announce the winners of the Queen City Road Race Art Contest. Two finalists were selected from each of the participating elementary schools.

The overall winning artwork is featured on the official race T-shirt and event poster. Along with that honor, the top finalist has been awarded $100.00 for their art class. The top three finalists each won a Subway party for their art class. Each finalist received a certificate and art kit which were presented at their schools. [Read more]

Kleeman Community Center to host Senior Prom

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Kleeman Community Center is hosting the Quick Silver Social of the season. The Senior Prom will be held March 19th at 5:00pm at the Kleeman Community Center. Suggested attire for the Senior Prom is “after 5.”

This event is free of charge and open to those ages 50 and up. The Kleeman Community Center is located at 166 Cunningham Lane.

Reminder: Crow Community Center will close temporarily for annual maintenance

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks & Recreation would like to remind citizens that the Crow Community Center will be closed March 14th-27th for annual maintenance. The center will return to normal operating hours after March 27th.

Clarksville City Departments to switch Phone Systems

March 14, 2011

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – The primary telephone numbers for the city’s Building and Codes Department and the Parks and Recreation Department will be switched to a new system Wednesday morning, which could temporarily cause calls to not be completed to those departments.

Technicians from Information Systems will start the switch at 9:30am on Wednesday. In the past, such changeovers have taken less than 10 minutes, but the process might require as much as 30 minutes. Also some numbers for the Police Department’s Professional Integrity Unit and Domestic Violence units

Residents should be aware that calls to these two departments may not reach their destination on Wednesday morning, and they should continue trying until their calls are answered.

Clarksville Parks & Recreation announces new Historical Interpreter

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the newest member of our staff and Historical Interpreter, William Parker. Parker graduated from Austin Peay State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History and Political Science.

He was selected by the History Department to study at Oxford University in Oxford, England where he completed two semesters. Parker earned his Master of Arts Degree in Military History at Austin Peay where he graduated with honors.

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will be holding a community meeting at 6:30pm, Thursday, March 10th, at Greenhill Missionary Baptist Church, located at 311 Walker Street, Clarksville, TN 37042.

The meeting will be for residents in the neighborhood surrounding the new Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, seeking their input in reference to the activities related to the Fort Defiance opening on April 7th.

Clarksville Parks & Recreation to hold guided nature hike on the Clarksville Greenway

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department invites you to attend a guided nature hike at The Clarksville Greenway, located at the end of Pollard Road. The nature hike will take place Saturday, March 19th from 8:00am to 9:00am.

Dr. L. Dwayne Estes, Associate Professor of Biology at Austin Peay State University, will be leading the guided hike. Dr. Estes will educate hikers by identifying different plants and trees along The Clarksville Greenway.

The guided nature hike is free to participants.
