Clarksville Senior Olympics to kick off May 4th

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Senior adults ages 50 and up can register now until April 29th for the 2011 Clarksville Senior Olympics. This year’s events will be May 4th-7th at various locations around Clarksville, including The Swan Lake Sports Complex and Golf Course, Kleeman Community Center, The Pinnacle Bowling Center, and Burt-Cobb Community Center.

Seniors will face off for bragging rights, as well as medals in more than 20 challenging events, which include shuffleboard, tennis, track, golf, bowling, basketball free throw, pickle ball and billiards. Because we now have the Indoor Aquatic Center, swimming events have been added. [Read more]

Fort Defiance Walking Trails to Close Wednesday

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Fort Defiance walking trails will be closed to the public Wednesday, April 6th, to be resurfaced.

The trails will re-open to the public on Thursday, April 7th, just in time for a ribbon-cutting ceremony that day, followed by weekend grand opening activities at Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center that is planned for this weekend.

Clarksville Parks & Recreation to host Pitch, Hit and Run Local Competition April 23rd

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Registration is under way for the Aquafina Pitch, Hit and Run. You may register your child at any of our three community centers or the Parks & Recreation main office on Public Square. Registration will also be accepted the day of the event.

This event will be held at Heritage Park Softball Fields at 10:00am on Saturday, April 23rd and there is no cost to participate.

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The annual Spring Eggstravanganza will be back on April 23rd at Heritage Park Baseball Fields. The fun begins at 2:00pm with kids in four age groups hunting more than 30,000 eggs, hoping to find the one golden egg. The special egg entitles the finder to a free week session of swim lessons at one of Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s pools. 2011 Clarksville Sports Festival to feature a variety of sports, athletic and outdoor activities this weekend

Clarksville Sports FestivalClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation is kicking off its first-annual Clarksville Sports Festival to be held March 25th-26th, at the Foy Fitness Center located on the campus of Austin Peay State University, with a variety of sports, athletic and outdoor activities for the entire family.

The two-day celebration of sports and athletics in Clarksville and Montgomery County will feature several “zones” that will include not only clinics, demonstrations and interactive areas, but also seminars and even an exposition area where over 25 of Clarksville and Montgomery County’s athletic and outdoor clubs and organizations will come together in one location. Update on the Raymond C. Hand Pass pedestrian bridge closure

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville temporarily closed the Raymond C. Hand Pass pedestrian bridge on the Clarksville Greenway earlier this month after heavy rains had caused sloughing of the slopes leading to both ends of the bridge.

An expected reopening date has not been identified, said Daniel Binkley, City of Clarksville Project Manager. He said Baron+Dowdle, the contractor for the Greenway Pedestrian Bridge, has retained engineers to develop a plan for repairing the failing slopes that were constructed last fall. [Read more]
