Barnes, Pitts Announce Arts Grants

Four Montgomery County organizations receive $37,100 total

The Seal of the State of TennesseeClarksville, TN – State Senator Tim Barnes and State Representative Joe Pitts announced Friday the four Montgomery County recipients of Tennessee Arts Commission grants for the upcoming fiscal year.

Summer Youth Program Continues, Filling Up Quickly

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Youth Program continues and openings at the various sites are filling up quickly!

The West Creek, Caldwell Lane, Minglewood, Barksdale, Hazelwood, St. Bethlehem, Kleeman Center, Crow Center and New Providence sites have met their registration capacities.

Clarksville Parks & Recreation welcomes a new Director to the Kleeman Center

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department welcomes a new full-time member to its staff. Tonya Wacker is the new Director of the Kleeman Community Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane.

Wacker has been a part-time employee of Parks and Recreation for nine years. She began as a gym assistant with the Summer Youth Program at the St. Bethlehem location. She eventually moved on to the Site Director position at the Caldwell Lane and Barksdale locations. Wacker has since served as a part-time staff member at the Crow Center. [Read more]

Jammin’ in the Alley Concert Series to feature Chris Robertson

Jammin in the Alley 2011Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville together with U.S. Bank will soon be Jammin’ in Strawberry Alley once again, after last month’s kickoff with a crowd that set the record for attendance. Join us on Friday, June 17th for this month’s concert and every third Friday of the month through October.

This month’s free concert features Chris Robertson and the Country Music Band. They’ll be sure to keep you on your feet playing great country classics along with a few originals. [Read more]

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Join Clarksville Parks and Recreation this Saturday, June 18th, at Heritage Park soccer fields for this month’s Movies in the Park event, featuring the hit movie, “Transformers,” which is rated PG-13.

All movies start at dusk, with pre-show activities beginning an hour prior. Be sure to bring your picnic blankets and lawn chairs. As always, you are welcome to bring your picnic basket, but concessions will be available.

Youth Fishing Rodeo Saturday

Annual TWRA, Clarksville Parks and Recreation Youth Fishing Rodeo Saturday

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRAClarksville, TN – On the second Saturday in June each year, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency allows all residents and non-residents to fish without a license. Children ages 16 and under are urged to bring their fishing poles and bait to the pond at Liberty Park for free fishing from 8:00am to 10:30am, June 11th. Registration will begin at 7:00am.

The other portions of Liberty Park will remain closed, except for the boat ramp and boat docks that are now open from 7:00am to 8:00pm each Saturday and Sunday.

Clarksville GreenwayClarksville, TN – Join us to learn more about your Clarksville Greenway! The Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a Tree Identification class on Saturday, June 25th, from 8:00am – 9:00am at the Clarksville Greenway, located at 1101 Pollard Road.

The class will be led by the new City Forester Bill Mitchell, who will be instructing participants about the characteristics of different trees along the Greenway.
