Liberty Park boat ramp to open additional days this holiday Weekend

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department will open the Liberty Park boat ramp for an additional day this Fourth of July Weekend. The new, four-lane boat ramp and two boat docks will be open Friday, July 1th, through Monday, July 4th, from 7:00am to 8:00pm. However, because of Sunday’s Independence Day Celebration, the ramp will be open 7:00am to midnight to accommodate boaters.

Local Hershey Track and Field Winners Excel at State Competition

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The State Hershey Track and Field Competition was held June 25th in Murfreesboro, and two local competitors won in their respective events. Melanie Stevens placed first in both the 400- and 800-meter races, while Bethany Rich placed first in the standing long jump.

The first- and second-place athletes in the local competition, held May 14th at Kenwood High School, advanced to the District Hershey Track and Field Competition in Dickson where they advanced to the State Competition in Murfreesboro. Hershey Track and Field gives young athletes a chance to showcase their skills in track and field, long jump and softball throw.

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Join Clarksville Parks and Recreation on Friday, July 1st, at Heritage Park Soccer Fields for the Movies in the Park event for July, featuring the 2006 musical drama film, “Dreamgirls,” which is rated PG-13.

All movies start at dusk – around 8:20pm this Friday – with pre-show activities beginning an hour prior. Be sure to bring your picnic blankets and lawn chairs. As always, you are welcome to bring your picnic basket, but concessions will be available.

Independence Day Celebration

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville wants to inform citizens that as of noon on Saturday, July 2nd, the boat ramp, courtesy dock and lower parking lot at McGregor Park will be closed to the public. The upper parking lot will close Sunday, July 3rd at 7:30am. Any vehicles left in these two lots after these times will be towed.

Step Aerobics beginning at the Crow Community Center

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Step into Fitness at the Crow Community Center! Step Aerobics is coming to the Crow Center, located at 211 Richview Road. The 10-week program begins July 5th, with classes from 6:00pm to 7:00pm each Tuesday and Thursday. The cost of the program is $3.00 per class or $20.00 for the entire session.

Summer Youth Program Continues, Spots Still Remain

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Think it’s too late to sign up for the City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Youth Program? Think again!

Woodlawn Elementary, Byrns Darden, Burt Elementary and Summit Heights still have spots available for children ages 6-12. Each of the sites with remaining capacity is open from 9:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday. Children must be picked up prior to closing. [Read more]

Aquatic Specialty Class Schedule to change temporarily at New Providence Pool

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The Aqua Zumba class held at New Providence Pool, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, will have a time change Friday, June 24th. The class will be at 5:00pm rather than its regularly scheduled time of 6:00pm.

The Basic Water Aerobics class normally scheduled for 6:00pm on Friday will be cancelled for the day. Both classes will return to regular times next week.

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – Join Clarksville Parks and Recreation on Saturday, June 25th, at Heritage Park Soccer Fields for this month’s Movies in the Park event, featuring the hit animated superhero film, “Megamind,” which is rated PG.

Because of heavy rain, last Saturday’s showing of “Transformers” was cancelled and has been rescheduled for Friday, September 30th.
