Poet Glass to read at Spring Salon Event

The Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts continues its popular Spring Salon Series next week with a reading and lecture by local poet Malcolm Glass.
“Poetry’s Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed: A Reading with Commentary” begins at 5:30 pm on Monday, May 17th at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library. The title of this month’s event might be a little playful, but who better to attempt to “reveal” the secrets of poetry than Glass.

Hearing slated to review city’s 2009-10 action plan

The City of Clarksville will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, March 24, at 6:00 p.m. in the Clarksville Montgomery County Public Library, 350 Pageant Lane, Clarksville, in order to receive citizen input regarding the 2009/2010 Action Plan, American Recovery Act funding, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and the HOME Investment Partnership Program.
Citizen participation is essential to the City’s involvement in the Federal Department of Housing & Urban Development’s (HUD) Programs. The Action Plan serves as the planning document for addressing overall community development and housing needs that will utilize the City’s anticipated $ 800,000 entitlement of CDBG funding, $ 215,046 CDBG-R in addition to $ 425,00 of HOME Investment Partnership funds available to the City for 2009. Projects selected to receive this funding will be included in the Action Plan.
All citizens and organizations are invited to attend the public hearing to comment orally or in writing on the FY 2009 Action Plan. The City of Clarksville will make reasonable accommodations and services necessary for sensory-impaired and disabled citizens at the public meeting. Additionally, translation services may be offered upon request and availability. Youth Art showing honors young artists

Students from twenty-schools from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System will be participating in the 2009 Youth Art Month exhibit.
A reception honoring the young artists will be held March 8 at the Clarksville Montgomery County Public Library, where their art will be displayed.
The program offers many students a chance to further develop their interest in the creative arts and receive recognition for the efforts.
The art teachers invite the public to attend this free event. The exhibit starts this Friday and runs through April 3. An opening reception on Sunday, March 8, will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“Good Neighbor” offers home repair assistance

Hundreds of volunteers will restore hope for local residents by providing free home repairs. The City of Clarksville Office of Housing and Community Development announced today that applications for the 2009 Good Neighbor Volunteer Home Repair Program are now available through March 31, 2009. This year’s program is expected to provide assistance to approximately 40 homeowners. Eligible applications will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.
Many low-income homeowners who have lived in their home for years desperately need home repairs but are unable to afford the expense. Having decent housing- the comfort of a sound livable home equates to peace of mind and helps revitalize neighborhoods. [Read more]
Hearing planned to assess community housing needs

The City of Clarksville Office of Housing and Community Development and the Housing and Community Development Citizens’ Advisory Committee invite interested parties to attend a community hearing on Thursday, January 29 at 6:00 pm. in the large meeting room located at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library, 350 Pageant Lane.
The purpose of this meeting is to solicit comments in regard to the development of the 2009-2010 Annual Action Plan for the current Five-Year Consolidated Plan which focuses primarily on housing choice and opportunities for low -moderate income citizens in the City of Clarksville.
