APSU art professors discuss trip to Africa at October 12th salon

Clarksville, TN – The taxi, a dust-covered Toyota Range Rover, sped down what could only loosely be called a road in the remote wilderness of Tanzania. Austin Peay State University art professors Cindy Marsh and Jennifer Snyder sat in the back seat, bracing themselves for a crash.

Public Library accepting Food Donations for F.U.E.L.

Donations Accepted Through September 11th as Part of Hands-On Clarksville’s Serve to Remember Volunteering Project
Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library will be accepting food donations of single packaged items suitable for use in the F.U.E.L. program, which serves 1,700 children in Montgomery County.
These children’s only source of food may be that served during the school lunch program. Items will be placed in children’s backpacks at school each Friday to help feed them over the weekend. [Read more]

Clarksville, TN – Theresa McCoy saved her money and spent a year overseas in far-flung locales letting her opportunities dictate where she traveled next. You are invited to listen to her describe her adventures and misadventures on the trip and show photos of her experience.

Hands on Clarksville and The Center for Nonprofit Management to hold Nonprofit Training Workshops

Clarksville, TN – Hands on Clarksville and the Nonprofit Partnership Network’s July meeting will include a special training opportunity offered by The Center for Nonprofit Managment (CNM). CNM is offering the training to Montgomery County and surrounding areas.
The two, 2 1/2 hour workshops will provide information on the basics of grant writing and community partnerships. The goal of the these workshops is to help the community better understand the grant process and pursue collaborations with local business partners during these challenging economic times. Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library will once again present a Summer reading Program for the children and young adults in Montgomery County. “One World, Many Stories” is the theme for this year’s Summer Reading Program in libraries all across Tennessee and the nation. Everyone can participate in this free program!

Public Library Classic Silent Film Series Finale Thursday, May 12th

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library will be presenting Nanook of the North, the very first feature length documentary, as the final film in a series of classic silent films screened in March, April and May.
Nanook of the North was among the first 25 films to be chosen for preservation by the National Film Registry because of its stature as of one of a group of “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant films.” (National Film Registry website)
T.O.Y.S. to present the Pied Piper

Clarksville, TN – “The Pied Piper (by Shubert Fendrich and Patrick Rainville) is the eighth offering from the Theatre Organization for Youth by Students (T.O.Y.S.).
The play begins in the small village of Hamelin that has been beleaguered by a rat infestation. Their benches are dilapidated; their children are running scared, and even worse: their apple harvest is threatened. At this time the Pied Piper and his servant Gertrude arrive at the village in search of fame and fortune.
When the Piper sees his opportunity, he quickly offers the services of his father’s magical pipe to rid the town of its rat problem. Mayor Hoffman accepts the Piper’s offer and, believing that such a feat could never be accomplished, he doesn’t even set a price. However, when the Piper completes the task and names the fee, the village’s real problems begin. [Read more]
