May 22, 2011

Humane Society of Clarksville – Montgomery County (HSCMC)Clarksville, TN – Will extra toes guarantee forever homes for members of this rescued kitty family? We hope so! The extra toe is a spontaneous genetic mutation called polydactylism. Ernest Hemingway, renowned American novelist, was known for keeping polydactyl cats at his home In Key West, Florida. Even today, ancestors of his pets stroll through the grounds of his home, now a tourist attraction. There is a foundation that cares for the cats and manages their numbers through selective spaying and neutering to ensure the continuity of this colony.
