Clarksville Writers’ Conference Speakers Again Are Tops

Clarksville, TN – From comic book contributors to best-selling romance writers to illustrators and more, the writers at this year’s Clarksville Writers’ Conference, sponsored by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council, was again not only informative but full of essential hints that lead would-be-writers to success.

A heavy emphasis on self-publication was a new feature for conference goers. Many of the authors were either Clarksville or Middle Tennessee natives, including the keynote speaker Jim Squires or Crockett White, a Nashville native and author of West End among several other books.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts & Heritage Development Council invites Organizations to Apply for ABC Grants to Fund Arts Activities

Clarksville, TN – Organizations seeking funding for artistic and cultural projects that benefit the community are invited by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts & Heritage Development Council to apply for an Arts Build Communities grant.

Arts Build Communities is a program funded by the Tennessee Arts Commission and administered by the Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission.

Oh, To Live by the Sea exhibit at the Customs House Museum

Hook Rugs Showcase the Joy of the Ocean

Clarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council will present this April a national traveling exhibit of 12 works by fiber artists, including a piece by Clarksvillian Tamara Long.

Inspired by the last line of the poem “Sea Joy” by Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, “Oh—To live by the sea is my only wish,” these works range from traditional representations of lobster shacks, fishing boats, sea gulls and beach vacations to more abstract representations of sea, sky, shells and sand.
Since she lives in land-locked Tennessee, Long’s hooked rug is a collage of images from her vacations by the sea.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage to hold Valentine’s arts event with Chocolate, Champagne, and Chamber Music February 14th

Clarksville, TN – Clarksvillians can buy Valentine’s gifts from local artists, sample champagne and heart-healthy chocolates from local caterers, and enjoy chamber music by local musicians at the seventh annual Valentine’s Day Afternoon with the Arts, Sunday, February 14th, 2016.

Clarksville, TN – Riverfest Tour d’Art kicks off tonight in conjunction with the First Thursday Art Walk with the High School Division exhibit reception. Art enthusiasts are invited to explore exciting treasures created by local artists. Artwork is juried and over $2,500 in prizes will be awarded.

Clarksville’s 9th Annual ‘Frolic on Franklin’ Set for September 13th

Clarksville, TN – Downtown Clarksville’s 9th Annual “Frolic on Franklin: A Celebration of the Arts” will take place Saturday, September 13th from 8:30am-3:30pm.

The free event will showcase the works of more than 30 artists, staged entertainment, art demonstrations, and a doggie fashion show – all along the 100 block of historic Franklin Street.

A variety of original fine art, as well as handmade crafts, will be on display including paintings and photography, jewelry, clay garden items, wood work, purses and fabric accessories, pottery, candles, jewelry, woven and knitted items, and seasonal gifts. Items will be for sale with prices ranging from $2.00 – $500.00.

Historian to discuss new view of Andrew Jackson at APSU on April 9th

Clarksville, TN – Many Americans view Andrew Jackson as a frontiersman who fought duels, killed Indians and stole another man’s wife. Historians have traditionally presented Jackson as a man who struggled to overcome obstacles and helped create a more democratic United States.

In his compelling new biography of Jackson published by LSU Press, historian Mark R. Cheathem argues for a reassessment of these long-held views, suggesting that in fact “Old Hickory” lived as an elite Southern gentleman.
