AHDC receives $10,000 grant to offer arts experiences to military families

Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council has received a $10,000 grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission to enfold active military, veterans and their families into Clarksville’s creative community.

The Tennessee Arts Commission in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Veteran Services awarded nine Tennessee Military, Veterans & the Arts grants to organizations throughout the state. Two Montgomery County organizations, AHDC and Gateway Chamber Orchestra, were grant recipients.

As part of the Tennessee Arts Commission Arts and Military grant, Arts for Hearts offered a wood burning class that filled so quickly they have added two additional classes with a waiting list.

AHDC to honor three Clarksvillians for their work in advancing arts, heritage in our community

Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – Three Clarksvillians will be honored this Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council for their achievements in art and in preserving our heritage.

Ceramicists Ken and Melody Shipley will receive the Lifetime Achievement in Art award, and Dr. Minoa Uffelman, Austin Peay State University history professor, will receive the Lifetime Achievement in Heritage award.

The awards ceremony will begin at 5:00pm at Emerald Hill on the Austin Peay campus.

Over the past two years volunteers have hosted more than 200 free art events throughout the community, including Fort Campbell and Gilda’s House in Nashville Tennessee. People of all ages come together with volunteers to explore and create art.

AHDC invites public to exhibit, reception for 2Rivers Plein Air Paint-Out

Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – On Friday and Saturday, October 19th and 20th, 2018 artists from around Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky will arrive in Clarksville to paint the city in the Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council’s 2Rivers Plein Air Paint-Out.

They will set up easels all around town to capture Clarksville on canvas and will welcome anyone in their vicinity to ask about their work or share stories about the spaces they are painting.

Arts for Hearts ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – On Thursday, September 6th, 2018, Arts for Hearts Clarksville, Montgomery County Parks and Recreation staff, and volunteers will setup the “Pillars of Hope” Honoring our Heroes through Art at the Downtown Commons, 215 Legions Street. The Pillars of Hope will be on display from 11:00am-7:00pm.

The Pillars of Hope is a commemorative piece of public art created by our community to honor and remember those who serve. The project began in 2012, a collaborative project organized by Rita Arancibia, Volunteer Clarksville, Hands on Nashville , APSU Ceramics Department, with support from the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Clarksville Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council.

The Tennessee Arts Commission is presenting the 2018 Tennessee Arts & Arts Education Conference, Design Thinking: A Pathway to Innovation in the Arts.
