Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) fills Administrator Positions

Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) has selected three candidates to fill administrator positions for the upcoming school year.
Current assistant principal, Scott Wainwright, has been appointed to serve as the principal of New Providence Middle School. Rossview Middle School teacher, Jenette Spurbeck, has been chosen as an assistant principal at Clarksville High School (CHS). Richview Middle School (RIMS) teacher, Lisa Courson, has been selected as an assistant principal at RIMS.

2016 Clarksville-Montgomery County Memorial Day Ceremony

Montgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Veterans Service Organization is hosting its annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 10:00am, May 30th, at the William O. Beach Civic Hall, Clarksville.
City and county officials, as well as MCVSO staff will give remarks, with the keynote address given by LTC (Retired) Norman “Greg” Lane, US Army Reserve, who currently serves as the Cadet Success Coordinator, Department of Military Science, Austin Peay State University ROTC.
Rivers and Spires Festival Sets New Attendance Record

Clarksville, TN – The 2016 Rivers and Spires Festival shattered previous attendance records, bringing over 49,000 people into downtown Clarksville over the April 14th-16th weekend. This year’s event was the largest Rivers and Spires to date with the 2010 Festival previously holding the record at 42,073 when the Charlie Daniels Band performed.
“The Festival definitely did what it was supposed to do; bring people downtown, promote the community and offer free family entertainment for all ages. We are very pleased with how the event went this year,” said Theresa Harrington, Executive Director of Visit Clarksville.

Clarksville Community Centers to host ‘Drop and Shop’ holiday events

Clarksville, TN – New this holiday season, Clarksville Parks and Recreation community centers will be providing a valuable service for parents and an afternoon of fun for children in December during the holiday season.
The City’s Crow community center, Kleeman community center, and Burt-Cobb community center will be holding their first-ever “Drop and Shop” events for children ages 6 and up.
Montgomery County’s Students on Committees Program Kicks Off

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government is pleased to be kicking off the first year of our Students on Committees Program. Twelve students from area high schools have been selected to serve as ex-officio members of various County Government committees for the 2015-16 school year.
Students began attending committee meetings in September and will be included in all county activities for the remainder of the school year. [Read more]
Clarksville’s Riverfest Art Experience Winners Announced

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville and Miller Lite kicked off Riverfest on a new night this year with the Riverfest Art Experience.
The Riverfest Art Experience was held on Thursday, September 10th at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center at Liberty Park and included an Art Show, Film Festival, Food Truck Rally, and performance by Temptations Legacy group, Serieux.

CMCSS Latin Students are Winners at National Convention

Montgomery County, TN – When asked what constitutes a fun summer, most teenagers would include joys like pools, beaches, sleep, and most of all, not having to study for school. For a select few, however, eighteen hours of study per week sounds pretty exciting.
These brave souls form the Junior Classical League (JCL), an organization dedicated to the study of the classics – Latin as well as ancient Greek and Roman culture.
Sue Freeman Culverhouse Speaks to Montgomery County Historical Society about Robert Penn Warren

Clarksville, TN – Author Sue Freeman Culverhouse was the featured speaker as she described the life of Robert Penn Warren at the June 15th meeting of the Montgomery County Historical Society. President Joe Filippo greeted the members and had the treasurer announce the upcoming barbeque fund-raiser to be held at the end of July.
Billyfrank Morrison gave a history of the school built on the site of the community center in South Guthrie, TN, where the event was held.
