Registration begins soon for the Riverfest Tour d’Art Exhibits and Competition

Riverfest 2012Clarksville, TN – This year’s competition will feature the following three exhibits: Amateur & Professional Divisions, High School Division, and the Senior Citizens’ Division. Artwork is displayed at exhibits at various locations in downtown Clarksville, and then juried, and over $2,500 in prizes is awarded.

The Amateur & Professional Division exhibit will be hosted at the Smith-Trahern Mansion September 7th from 10:00am-8:00pm and September 8th from 10:00am-5:00pm. Artists may enter in six categories: Painting & Watercolor, Drawing, 3D/Fiber Arts, Mixed Media & Print Collage, Digital Photography and Film Photography.

Call for Artwork Submissions for 2013 Cultural Calendar

Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development Council (AHDC) is putting out a call to all artists who are interested in having their work featured in its fifth annual Cultural Calendar.

Each month will feature an artist’s work and highlight arts and heritage events of the past and present. Submitted work will be juried to determine which piece is featured each month, as well as which artwork appears on the cover. [Read more]

This FREE, two day music and arts festival features four stages of a variety of local, regional and nationally-known entertainers, delicious food, and fun for the entire family.

The music kicks off Friday night at 5:00pm with a great lineup of Christian performers on the Mary’s the Music Store Stage to include MIKESCHAIR who will perform at 9:00pm. Eliminator and Little Queen will take to the Bud Light Stage on Friday night, followed by the ultimate Journey tribute band, Chain Reaction.

Clarksville Writer's ConferenceClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development Council is pleased to announce the Eighth Annual Clarksville Writers Conference, being held June 7th and 8th, 2012, on the campus of Austin Peay State University.

We are very honored to have as this year’s keynote speaker Alex S. Jones, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, author of Losing the News: The Future of the News that Feeds Democracy, and co-author of The Patriarch: The Rise and Fall of the Bingham Dynasty with Susan E. Tifft.

Jones, who is currently the director of the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, will speak at the conference banquet at the Clarksville Country Club on the evening of Thursday, June 7th. [Read more]

The Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet closed out the 51st Mid-South Jazz Festival

The Clarksville Community Concert AssociationClarksville, TN – The 51st Mid-South Jazz Festival closed out on Saturday with a concert by the Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall on Austin Peay State University. The concert was put on by the Clarksville Community Concert Association (CCCA) and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts; and sponsored by The Leaf Chronicle, and the Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development Council.

The Mid-South Jazz Festival is a three-day musical event in the APSU Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall that was founded in 1961 as a way of bringing jazz musicians to Clarksville to work with APSU students. It has since morphed in the last 26 years, under David Steinquest’s leadership, into one of the region’s most successful, professional jazz experiences. Luminaries such as the Joel Frahm Quartet, pianist Fred Hersch and even Jason Marsalis’ older brother Delfeayo have visited the University over the years as part of the festival.

Austin Peay State University Foundation selects new members to serve for 2012

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Foundation has selected 14 new members for 2012.

The APSU Foundation provides the structure through which the University can work directly with special volunteers and community leaders to enhance the financial well being of the University. The Foundation’s purpose is to financially support the University.

The Foundation is a separate entity and is chartered by the state, with the authority to receive private gifts in support of the University. Through its executive committee, the Foundation makes its own policy decisions. The University provides administrative support to the Foundation. [Read more]

Renowned soprano Burrows to perform at APSU on October 30th

Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development Council, in cooperation with the Clarksville Community Concert Association and Austin Peay State University Department of Music, will present renowned soprano and Clarksville native Melissa Shippen Burrows in concert at 7:00pm, October 30th, in the APSU Music/Mass Communication Concert Hall.

Described by The New York Times as “a dramatic soprano with an attractive, powerful sound,” as “angelic” by The Washington Post and, according to Theater Scene, “appealing and lyrical,” Burrows has made debuts in her young career throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.

Organizations Invited to Apply for ABC Grants to Fund Arts Activities

Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council invites organizations seeking funding for artistic and cultural projects that benefit the community to apply for an Arts Build Communities (ABC) grant.

Arts Build Communities (ABC) is a program funded by the Tennessee General Assembly and administered by the Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council (AHDC) in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission (TAC). ABC grants offer financial support for arts projects in all disciplines such as dance, music, opera/musical theater, theater, visual arts, design arts, crafts, photography, media arts, literature, interdisciplinary, and folk arts.
