Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, March 21st at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Medical Center. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall. The meeting begins at 7:00 pm and is always open to the public. Austin Peay State University Spring Salon Series to discuss “Faces of Valor” book honoring county’s armed services veterans March 12th

Clarksville, TN – In early 2003, Gerald Gilman, Randy Rubel and a committee undertook a monumental task. They put out a call for veterans and their families in Montgomery County to bring in pictures and service details for a collection to be titled “Faces of Valor.”
Those items are now displayed in the restored Montgomery County Courthouse, and a guidebook was printed, featuring 255 entries of soldiers serving from numerous eras. [Read more]
Austin Peay State University professors developing massive, two-volume military and diplomatic history textbook

Clarksville, TN – In the study of history, certain events stand out. If you’re examining the Civil War, for example, the Battle of Gettysburg will likely appear most often in textbooks and lectures. If it’s World War II that interests you, D-Day is a popular topic of choice.
But these events, while important, are just a sampling of history. What about the contributions Native American soldiers made during World War I, or the role of African-Americans during the American Revolution? For two Austin Peay State University professors, it’s sometimes frustrating locating textbooks that include the lesser known but equally important historical events.

Clarksville-Montgomery County to Commemorate 150th Anniversary of Town’s Surrender to Union Naval Forces

Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville Montgomery County Civil War Sesquicentennial or CW150 Commission is preparing for the 150th anniversary of the “Surrender of Clarksville.”
To commemorate this historic event, the CW150 Commission will host a ceremony marking the date on Sunday, February 19th, 2012 at 2:00pm at Fort Defiance Civil War Park.
