Clarksville’s Civil War Roundtable presents Ed Bearss at the Customs House Museum July 18th

Clarksville, TN – On Wednesday, July 18th, Clarksville’s Civil War Roundtable group will host a fundraiser at the Customs House Museum. The event will feature retired Chief Historian of the National Park Service, Ed Bearss, who will be presenting a lecture in the Museum’s Turner Auditorium at 7:00pm.
Ed is a combat wounded U.S. Marine who joined the National Park Service in the 1950s. Starting out at Vicksburg National Military Park as its historian, he rose to be the Chief Historian of the National Park Service and is retired from there as Chief Historian Emeritus. Ed is the most popular speaker on the Civil War lecture circuit today and is world renowned as a battlefield guide. [Read more]

The 100th Meeting will be held at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center
Clarksville, TN – Legendary Civil War historian, Edwin Bearss, will speak to the Clarksville Civil War Roundtable on Wednesday, July 18th, 2012 at 7:00pm at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation and the Friends of Fort Defiance to host “March to the Past” Saturday

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department and the Friends of Fort Defiance will host the “March to the Past” event this Saturday, June 23rd from 10:00am to 5:00pm at the Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street.
This event will feature living history demonstrations such as infantry drills, Civil War medicine and clothing, rolling rifle cartridges and games for children.

The 99th Meeting
Clarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, June 20th at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Hospital. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall. The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

“March to the Past” to be held June 23rd by Friends of Fort Defiance

Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Fort Defiance, including Porter’s Battery and Baxter’s Battery, will hold their “March to the Past” fundraising event at Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center on June 23rd from 10:00am-5:00pm.
Activities will include living history demonstrations such as quilting, Civil War medicine and clothing, rolling rifle cartridges, games for children, and firing demonstrations.
The Friends will be selling hot dogs and baked goods to support Fort Defiance.

In the month of June, the Museum will feature 2012 National Juried Exhibition, Outdoors In: The Paintings of Lori Putnam, Civil War Remedies, “Sunday Family Fun – Be an Architect” and so much more.
Richview Middle School Students to Compete in National History Day Competition

Clarksville, TN – All Eighth grade PASS (gifted program) students in Montgomery County competed in the district level of the National History Day Contest on February 22nd, 2012.
Students who placed at the district level moved on to compete at the state level on April 22nd, 2012 in Nashville Tennessee.

Emily Ritchart, John Courson, Jake Kolaski, Sidney McCarty, and Cherie Saffold of Richview Middle School are heading to Washington D.C. to compete in National History Day.

Clarksville Foundry Receives Green Certification

Montgomery County, TN – The latest business to become Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified is also the community’s oldest continuous industrial company.
The Clarksville Foundry celebrated the completion of its CMC Green Certification Program requirements Monday with their Green Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
