WJZM Radio transfers Ownership

WJZM, 1400AM Radio StationClarksville, TN – Clarksville’s original radio station, WJZM1400am, has transferred ownership. In a joint announcement this week, previous owner, Hank Bonecutter, said he had agreed to sell the corporation to local businessmen David Loos Jr, Greg Walker, and Mike Parchman. The sale became official on Tuesday.

“My wife and I are extremely excited about the sale,” said Bonecutter. “We have put a lot of hard work into WJZM, and this opportunity only comes along once in a lifetime to go out on your terms. I have dedicated my broadcasting career to the Clarksville-Fort Campbell community, bringing news, sports and current events to the public as reliable and credible as I can be. I think my legacy will be left on WJZM forever. I’m very excited, and proud of what I’ve accomplished.” [Read more]

Tennessee artist Olen Bryant to be honored at Sunday’s Austin Peay State University’s Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts’ annual CECA Ovation Awards

APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative ArtsClarksville, TN – For decades, artist and Austin Peay State University emeritus professor Olen Bryant has inspired students and community members through his patient demeanor and innovative sculptural works. His reputation as an artist was solidified locally in the early 1980s when his piece, “The Sentinel,” was unveiled as a permanent, public art installation in the center of the APSU campus.

But at 2:00pm on March 4th, the University will again recognize him when he is named the recipient of this year’s George Mabry Award, presented during the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts’ annual Ovation Awards Ceremony at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center auditorium. Bethel University named top graduate school in Business Journal’s ‘Book of Lists’

Bethel UniversityClarksville, TN – Bethel University’s Executive MBA program has garnered yet another honor: The school has been named #1 in enrollment for graduate schools of business by both the Nashville and Memphis Business Journal’s “Book of Lists”. The title is awarded to the graduate school with the highest number of enrollees. A total of 498 students were enrolled in Bethel’s Master’s of Business Administration program in the fall of 2011. Tennessee Students Compete for Honors at District History Day Contests

Austin Peay State University to play host to North Middle District Contest

Tennessee History DayNashville, TN – Beginning next week, students from across the state will demonstrate their research abilities, knowledge and creativity in the world’s leading program for history education.

The district level competitions for Tennessee History Day are scheduled to take place from February 22nd through March 24th in Greeneville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, and Memphis. In the competitions, students in grades six through 12 will present history-themed projects in a variety of formats – including museum-style exhibits, papers, web sites, documentaries and even live performances. Judges are university professors, high school teachers, museum curators, archivists and other public historians.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation wins Award for Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center

Tennessee Recreation and Parks AssociationFranklin, TN – The Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association (TRPA) announces the recipients of the association’s 2011 Awards Program. The outstanding achievements of these individuals, communities and organizations were acknowledged during the association’s 60th Annual Conference at Paris Landing State Park on October 5th, 2011.

The Distinguished Young Professional Award was presented to Jennifer Rich Gentry of Morristown for her outstanding service to the Parks and Recreation profession and her community. Gentry is a Programmer for Morristown Parks and Recreation and coordinates a variety of Morristown’s events and programs including Scare Crows in the Park, Olympic Day, Christmas in the City, PATH (Parks Add to Health) fitness program, and Celebration of Cultures Festival.

Bob Corker, R-Tennessee, during his visit on campus September 29th, but one in particular perhaps affects young adults the most in today’s times.

“What can the students do to get involved?” one student asked.

McMillan Elected to Mayors’ Conference Leadership

She joins 29 other mayors from cities across the country on the Advisory Board.
