Local Foundry Casts Replica Cannon for Clarksville Rotary’s 100th Anniversary

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Foundry is one of the oldest continuously operating foundries in the United States. The foundry’s origins predate the Civil War, having first opened in 1847.
While the family owned and operated foundry today casts component parts for a variety of industries, it once manufactured cannons and munitions for the Confederate States of America (1861-1862).
Clarksville Foundry cast the barrel and carriage of the replica Model 1841 6-Pounder Field Gun entirely in-house, which required 47 castings and 23 additional fabricated components. Clarksville Rotary Club commissioned the cannon in honor of its 100th Anniversary this month, and the cannon will be unveiled Friday in a ceremony on the Montgomery County Courthouse grounds. Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Foundry, one of Clarksville, Tennessee’s most historic businesses – and among the oldest operating foundries in the United States – has been owned and operated by members of the Foust family since 1912. In fact, the origins of this durable Foundry date to 1847.
Recently, a fourth generation of the Foust family – William “Bill” Foust – made an important career move by choosing to join the family business and continue the Foust tradition. Bill is the son of current President and CEO Charles Foust Jr.

Clarksville Foundry Part of National Geographic Channel Special

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Foundry, one of Tennessee’s oldest manufacturing companies with pre-Civil War origins, is a participant in a National Geographic Channel project that explores the mystery of the sinking of the Confederate submarine H. L. Hunley.
National Geographic Channel’s two-hour special, “Secret Weapon of the Confederacy,” premiers Thursday, September 15th, at 8:00pm CT. The show includes footage filmed at Clarksville Foundry, and features onscreen appearances by foundry employees Larry Rye and Larry Hale.
As part of reproducing a section of the Civil War submarine H.L. Hunley’s conning tower, Larry Hale of Clarksville Foundry melts iron for a casting that was used in the National Geographic Channel’s special “Secret Weapon of the Confederacy,” which premiers Thursday, September 15th.
Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce announces new board

The Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 2010-2011 Chamber Board of Directors. The Chamber elects new leadership each fiscal year, with the fiscal year running from July 1st, 2010 to June 30th, 2011. The board of directors, executive committee and ex-officio members of the board attend quarterly meetings, provide direction for Chamber staff and volunteers, and manage the finances of The Chamber.
