Dr. Larry Hoehn, professor emeritus in mathematics, learned recently that two manuscripts he co-authored were accepted for publication. “A 5-Circle Incidence Theorem” was accepted for the Mathematics Magazine published by the Mathematical Association of America. “Zwei Kreistheoreme für affin–metrische Ebenen” was accepted for publication in German in the Mitteilungen der Mathematischen Gesellschaft publication. Dr. Sharon Mabry, professor of music, had her new book, “The Performing Life: A Singer’s Guide to Survival,” featured in the book review section of the latest Journal of the IAWM (International Alliance for Women in Music). Dr. Sergei Markov, associate professor of biology, had four chapters published in a reference book, Applied Science. The four chapters are titled “Biofuels and Synthetic Fuels,” “Bioprocess Engineering,” “Industrial Fermentation” and “Metabolic Engineering.” This publication is designed for undergraduate students, high school students and anyone seeking or planning careers in the field. Dr. Dixie Dennis, dean of the College of Graduate Studies and associate provost of Grants and Sponsored Research, has had a productive academic year. In April 2011, she was one of about 600 health educators – from among approximately 70,000 health educators in the U.S. – who has obtained the Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) distinction. Mike Wilson, director of the GIS Center at APSU, and Doug Catellier, GIS analyst, showcased the center’s Disaster Mitigation and Recovery Kit (DMARK) at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Expo in Washington, D.C.
