Clarksville’s Movies in the Park to show “Black Panther” this Saturday

Clarksville's Movies in the ParkClarksville, TN – On Saturday, July 13th, 2019, the City of Clarksville’s free outdoor movie series Movies in the Park will continue its 14th season with the showing of “Black Panther” at the Heritage Park soccer fields.

Pre-show activities, coordinated by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department, will begin at 6:30pm and include a ping pong cannon firing demonstration by Austin Peay’s Bryan Gaither, lab manager for the Department of Physics, Engineering and Astronomy. Watch as plastic balls are fired more than 700 mph through cans, plywood and maybe even some fruit.

Sango Elementary students become scientists of the day at Austin Peay State University

APSU sends dolls to stratosphere to celebrate women in STEM

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University and the APSU College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) recently celebrated women in STEM by launching a high-altitude balloon carrying two dolls adorned in American Girl NASA space suits.

The dolls reached 93,914 feet at 11:13am January 24th, 2019.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – NASA recently honored Austin Peay State University with its Marshall Space Flight Center Group Achievement Award for the University’s help during the 2017 Great American Eclipse.

He captured a video of its maiden flight and sent it to some friends: “So I got bored and built a hovercraft.”

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – High school students attending the APSU Governor’s School for Computational Physics this summer learned ping pong balls can pierce a piece of ¼-inch-thick plywood.

But only with the help of a specially built ping pong cannon.
