Clarksville, TN – My name is Brittany Glynn and I am a Publisher’s Representative with EDC Publishing based in Clarksville, TN.
EDC is the home of Usborne Books, 2014’s IPG Children’s Publisher of the year, and Kane-Miller books, an award-winning publisher out of California, and both are recognized as a premier supplier of educational tools and books by schools and libraries all of over the US.
From now through Thursday, July 28th, we are kicking off our Summer Charity Book Drive to help the local police department. Our Clarksville Police officers have currently faced a lot of hardships and we want to show our support to the police officers while helping out children in crisis.

Sanctuary, Inc. is a nonprofit agency committed to the provision of preventative and restorative services to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Austin Peay State University Phi Kappa Phi chapter awarded literacy grant

Clarksville, TN – The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP)—the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines—recently presented John Blake, Austin Peay State University associate professor of engineering technology, with a 2014 Literacy Grant. Blake, president of APSU’s PKP chapter, is one of 14 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

Clarksville, TN – As you shop for groceries, Halloween goodies and other items, remember to pick up a new book or two to donate to the annual Candy for the Mind project at Austin Peay State University.
For the 10th consecutive Halloween, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) at APSU is collecting new and gently used children’s books for its Candy for the Mind project. Members of the campus and local community are invited to support this effort through donations of books or funds for the purchase of books.

Summer typically provides at least a few more hours for reading, whether it’s during vacation or just because you have more daylight hours for relaxing. Here are some authors I consider worth reading:
1. Karen von Blixen-Finecke (Isak Dinesen). “I had a farm in Africa” in the romantic OUT OF AFRICA (first published in 1937) is one of the most memorable first lines in any book I’ve ever read. These six simple words somehow create an atmosphere of intrigue that extends throughout the book. If you have seen the movie and enjoyed it, you will love the book. [Read more]

Dr. Robert T. Cochran Jr. came to Borders Saturday, April 4, reading from his new book, Curing Chronic Pain.

In Understanding Chronic Pain, Cochran’s first book, he spoke with patients about their experience with unrelenting pain, developing a “thesis that chronic pain was a form of mental illness, and that by understanding and treating the mental illness one could often cure chronic pain.” Cochran saw links between chronic pain and issues such as childhood trauma, depression, substance abuse and bipolar disorder.Cochran was available to sign books for his readers.

J.R. “Model T” Tate launches APSU’s “2009 Peay Read”

A man who has written extensively about the Appalachian Trail – and hiked the trail’s entire 2,175 miles four times – will be at Austin Peay State University to speak on his experiences and help kick off the Spring 2009 book series of The Peay Read.
J.R. Tate, a retired Marine Corps officer who completed Appalachian Trail thru-hikes in 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2006, will speak at 4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22 and at noon, Friday, Jan. 23. Both sessions, free and open to the public, will be in the Morgan University Center, Room 308.
He will be on hand to announce “A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail” by Bill Bryson. Bryson tells of his encounters while hiking the trail. [Read more]
