Tennessee Governor’s Books from Birth Bus Tour stops at Governor’s Square Mall on September 11th

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation (GBBF) launched its “Books from Birth 10th Anniversary Tour” on August 26th in Johnson County and it will conclude at the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville on September 30th, visiting some 50 counties across the state in a forty-five foot decorated touring coach.

The tour bus will visit Clarksville at the Food Court entrance to Governor’s Square Mall on Thursday, September 11th from 12:30pm to 2:00pm.

Rossview High School Student wins License Plate Design Contest

Tennessee Suicide Prevention NetworkNashville, TN – Brandon Anderson, a student at Clarksville’s Rossview High School, received first prize in a license plate design contest staged by the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network (TSPN).

On November 22nd, Anderson received a $1,000 check and was honored by members of TSPN at the high school.

Austin Peay State University provost Dr. Tristan Denley to take position as vice chancellor at Tennessee Board of Regents

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – APSU’s chief academic official, Dr. Tristan Denley who currently serves as Provost, has informed the campus community that he has accepted a position with the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, pending an official vote by the TBR.

Tentative plans are for Denley to begin in his new role with TBR in August.

Clarksville-Montgomery County School System gets Grant to Cover Dual Enrollment Costs for STEM Academy, Middle College Students

Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemNashville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has received a $40,000 grant to pay for STEM Academy and Middle College High School’s students’ fees for dual enrollment in college courses.

The Tennessee College Access and Success Network awarded a total of $412,426 this week to six schools, two higher education institutions and four nonprofits in its third annual grant competition, raising the total amount of Race to the Top funds awarded by the Network to more than $1.6 million. The Tennessee Department of Labor has partnered with Dollar General and several major employers in Tennessee to connect veterans with jobs. The “Paychecks for Patriots” hiring fair will be held on October 25th in 13 Tennessee Career Centers throughout the state and will feature local employers interested in putting veterans to work. Five Additional Recreational Trails Program Grants Announced

The Seal of the State of TennesseeNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau today awarded an additional $547,000 in grants for recreational trail projects across Tennessee. $120,000 was awarded to the City of Clarksville to connect Mary’s Oak Trail Head and the 101st Pedestrian Bridge through Heritage Park.

“These grants help local governments and organizations improve amenities such as trails, greenways and recreational facilities that contribute so much to a better community and quality of life,” Haslam said. “The grants will help make Tennessee’s incredible natural beauty and outdoors more accessible to Tennesseans.” [Read more]

Many of them brought sack lunches with junk food and sugary treats, and she knew they weren’t getting enough exercise at home.
