Clarksville, TN – After spending most of her life in Nashville, Madison Hobson decided to try a smaller, more intimate environment for her college career.
“I came to Austin Peay for the smaller campus community,” she said. “I wanted to be able to stand out more than I would have at a bigger school. Also, it offered two big things that I wanted—affordability and a quality education.”

Clarksville, TN – In 2003, during the opening months of the Iraq War, a young Fort Campbell soldier drove his Humvee over a hidden antitank mine. The resulting explosion covered more than a third of his body and face in burns. Many wondered if he would survive his injuries.

Clarksville, TN – In 2016, during an interview for the literary journal Ploughshares, award-winning poet and essayist Marcelo Hernandez Castillo said, “I wish I wasn’t afraid, I wish this wasn’t my reality.”
When Castillo was five, his family moved from Mexico to California, and even though he now has permanent resident status, he told Ploughshares, “That doesn’t mean I’m not still afraid, either for myself or for my family.”
Austin Peay State University Art + Design welcome visiting artist Dario Robleto on March 13th

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Art + Design, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, will welcome artist Dario Robleto to campus for a public lecture at 6:00pm, Tuesday, March 13th, in Heydel Hall (Art + Design Room 120).
Robleto will be a guest artist, invited by the Acuff Chair of Excellence Sonya Clark. That Tuesday, before his lecture, he will meet with the students from Clark’s Acuff class.
APSU Board of Trustees to host spring meeting March 8th-9th

Clarksville, TN – On March 8th and 9th, 2018 the Austin Peay State University Board of Trustees will host its spring meetings at the Fort Campbell Military Installation and on the APSU campus.
The Board’s Business and Finance Committee, Academic Policies and Programs/Student Life Committee, and Audit Committee will meet at 2:00pm that Thursday at the APSU Education Center, Building #203 on the Fort Campbell Army Installation.
Austin Peay State University Choral Program thrives during busy year

Clarksville, TN – On a recent February afternoon, Dr. Korre Foster, Austin Peay State University associate professor of music, sat in his office, looking surprisingly alert. It’s been a busy year for the University’s famed choral program, and with a raise of his eyebrows, Foster said he intends to maintain its strong reputation.
“We continue to become more well known,” he said. “Schools from Memphis want to come three hours just to perform here with us.”

Clarksville, TN – After 30 years as a studio artist, Paul Collins now works exclusively in public spaces.
For each of new project, the Austin Peay State University associate professor of art spends two weeks painting at sites chosen for their history, politics or public use. This March, Collins will present seven of these projects in a new exhibition, “Fortnight Session,” at Zeitgeist Gallery in Nashville Tennessee.

APSU offers Active Shooter Defense Training

Clarksville, TN – As part of their ongoing safety training offered to the campus community and public, Austin Peay State University police officers are offering active shooter defense training sessions on campus beginning Thursday, March 15th.
All sessions are free and open to the public.

10th annual Empty Bowls Clarksville a Huge Success

Clarksville, TN – Hundreds participated in the 10th annual Empty Bowls Clarksville Tuesday, with volunteers at eight local churches serving meals to raise money and awareness for area residents dealing with food insecurities.
This year’s theme; Hope, Not Hunger, will raise tens of thousands of dollars for Loaves & Fishes, and Urban Ministries Food Pantry, local agencies that provide thousands of meals each year for those in need in our community.
Brenda Harper is one of the Empty Bowls volunteers who worked the event at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Zone 3 Reading Series continues with Eric LeMay at Austin Peay State University on March 1st

Clarksville, TN – Acclaimed essayist Eric LeMay will read from his new collection at 4:00pm on Thursday, March 1st, in the Austin Peay State University Art + Design Building, Room 120. The reading, which is free and open to the public, is part of the Zone 3 Reading Series.
Earlier this year, Zone 3—Austin Peay’s national literary journal—published LeMay’s interactive digital book, “Essays On The Essay and Other Essays.”
