Clarksville, TN – Before the Austin Peay State University (APSU) Governor’s School for Computational Physics finished its three weeks of summer fun on Friday, the school’s mentors and professors had a little bit more science to show off.
After Bryan Gaither and Jeremiah Simmons boiled water in this steel drum, they sealed it and put it in an ice bath. Within 90 seconds it imploded. (Austin Peay State University)
APSU student is fourth straight to represent state at national music education summit on Capitol Hill

Clarksville, TN – Mackenzie Kelly is the fourth straight Austin Peay State University student to be picked to represent Tennessee at the annual National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Collegiate Advocacy Summit starting today in Washington, D.C.
She and students from across the country are gathering to advocate for music education, specifically the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, both important to music education.

Austin Peay State University Board of Trustees approves grad certificates, honors University supporters

Clarksville, TN – During its June meeting, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) Board of Trustees approved six new graduate certificates, which will be offered through the APSU College of Graduate Studies this fall.
Earlier this year, the University began offering graduate education programs, providing working professionals with the training and credentials they need to enhance and elevate their careers.

APSU’s CECA highlights art innovations on campus during state conference

Clarksville, TN – More than 200 art educators, administrators and artists from across the state visited the Austin Peay State University campus this month to discover new, innovative ways to teach and advocate for the arts in the coming year.
APSU’s Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA) hosted the Tennessee Arts Commission’s 2018 Tennessee Arts and Arts Education Conference, which allowed CECA to show off the groundbreaking projects taking place at Austin Peay State University.

Austin Peay State University Governor’s School Duct Tape Boat stays afloat

Clarksville, TN – The mentors at APSU Governor’s School of Computational Physics floated an idea – use duct tape and PVC pipe to build a boat that could carry two people across a pool.
Lili Swann and Ward Jaeger accepted the challenge and succeeded.
Lili Swann and Ward Jaeger named their boat “Phinabella” as a tribute to Disney’s “Phineas and Ferb.”

As she tried to maneuver the Spark drone through a small obstacle course set up in front of APSU’s Dunn Center, the breeze pushed the tiny quadcopter to the side just a bit. Clearing the gate was harder than she thought.

Tennessee Arts Commission event draws arts leaders
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan welcomed more than 200 arts administrators, educators and artists from across Tennessee to Clarksville for two days of learning and sharing.
The Tennessee Arts Commission is presenting the 2018 Tennessee Arts & Arts Education Conference, Design Thinking: A Pathway to Innovation in the Arts.

She will begin her new role at APSU on August 6th, 2018.

Clarksville, TN – Last week, Bryan Gaither’s grocery list called for 150 pounds of cornstarch. When asked what he was doing, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) physics lab manager explained he wanted to get a group of campers to walk on water.

APSU College of Education looks at China for potential students

Clarksville, TN – Dr. Benita Bruster’s cell phone pings all day with messages from WeChat—a popular Chinese social media app.
The Austin Peay State University professor and chair of the APSU Department of Teaching and Learning within the Eriksson College of Education downloaded the app earlier this summer, while on a recruiting trip to China, and now whenever she picks up her phone, she learns of another potential international student eager to study at APSU.
